It’s gonna storm tonight which means papery flowers like poppies and peonies flop, break, get washed out , basically look terrible tomorrow. Might as well cut them and enjoy them inside for a few days.

It’s been such a fun week participating in the Tennessee State Fair! Pretty dang excited to have two blue ribbons and a third place finish. The Rutherford County Master Gardeners were so helpful and encouraging as I entered the horticulture competition for the first time with my zinnias. Major props to the entire team for a massive effort to build a real raised bed garden in just a few hours. There are so many fun contests happening throughout the fair—I’m inspired and awed and I think I’m addicted…planning for next year already!

The first peony has opened! Such a lovely spring so far. I’m quite pleased with the cottage garden vibes and grateful for my perennials since I didn’t really plan ahead and get cool season annuals in this bed.
