Worried about your DR/DA metrics for SEO?

Don't.

These slides show you stats for 3 of my client sites vs. 3 very similar sites.

My client sites have average/low DR because we don't prioritize that metric.

But these competing sites have fewer actual visits on average.

[I'll let you decide which one of those metrics is more important.]

Now, let's talk about WHY "domain ratings" are so misleading. ⤵️

DR/DA is a nice vanity metric that actually means very little — it's a rating system developed by tools like Ahrefs and SEMrush, not by Google.

➡️ SEO tools use this number to offer a very broad picture of the quality of a website or web page based ONLY on links.

Their "authority" score doesn't take ANY of these factors into account:

🔵 Website quality/design/speed/UX
🔵 Content quality
🔵 Existing organic hits
🔵 Sitewide topical authority

Guess who DOES consider these factors?

GOOGLE.

In conclusion:

Stop focusing on metrics that don't matter. Start paying attention to how your traffic is serving your audience and growing your revenue.

You should prioritize SEO. Stop missing out on leads and put in the work.

SEO is not a channel that's going away anytime soon. It works because people LITERALLY search for things your business is already doing — and SEO is how you connect with them to increase leads and conversions.

These are the MOST common excuses I hear as to why companies "aren't ready" for SEO.

📣 Remember: It takes many months and even YEARS to see the impact of SEO efforts. Every month you waste is a month you can't get back years from now. 📣

Let's talk about these (bad) reasons to avoid SEO for just a sec.

🟣 1. YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE.

How can you make money without knowing whom you're talking to?

Answer: You can't. 🙄

Put together a customer profile. Ask your current customers who they are. Put the legwork in — your business will reflect that effort.

🟣 2. YOU DON'T HAVE THE BUDGET TO INVEST IN SEO.

News flash: It's possible to learn SEO absolutely for free.

Seriously, there are SO many resources. Just DM me and I'll send them your way.

The truth is that you can't really afford NOT to invest in this channel.

🟣 3. YOU DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START.

Content. Start with content.

Don't know what that means? Same advice — DM me.

🟣 4. YOU THINK SEO IS CONFUSING.

Fair. But please see #2 above.

🟣 5. YOU DON'T HAVE TIME.

Please fix your face with this foolishness.

Guess who DEFINITELY doesn't have time to invest in SEO?

You, a year or two from now, when you're scrambling to rapidly expand due to the influx of organic traffic coming to your site!

(That is, if you decide to do it right TODAY instead of putting it off.)

🤔 Do you know what "the yips" are?

It's a How I Met Your Mother reference that refers to when you get in your own head and lose your self-confidence.

I have the yips. 😕

This summer, we lost a client who literally said, "I just don't think what your team does is worth the money."

The funny part? We bent over BACKWARDS for them. Above and beyond doesn't even begin to describe it.

Regardless of the circumstance, reading those words was semi-debilitating.

Ever since, I've fought a battle of self-confidence.

🟣 Each time I have the opportunity to promote our business, I do a double-take and wonder if we're good enough.
🟣 When I see people who speak highly of our business pass over me for "expert" appearances on their podcast, I wonder if we're good enough.
🟣 I delete SO MANY posts I type out on LinkedIn and Twitter to offer my SEO experience because I wonder if I'm good enough.

But then, designing our new website, I got to develop our "Results" page. To do that, I checked out the pages for many "top" SEO agencies to find inspiration.

Do you know what I realized?

Our results are pretty stunning. As it turns out, we do darn good work.

So if you're struggling with the yips, just remember that people don't have to know your name for you to be awesome.

And one day... they WILL know it. ♥️

JULY 2021 UPDATE: You may be losing traffic from a recent Google algorithm change.

First announced in 2019, the Core Web Vitals (CWV) update was finally launched during June/July 2021.

These CWV can majorly impact your mobile rankings, as they're ALL about mobile user experience.

As a result, we (and many other SEOs) have seen a dramatic shift in how articles rank on desktop vs. mobile.

🤯 If your top-performing pages have lost their mobile positions, it might be causing big losses — most web traffic is on mobile!

If you've seen a major change in your traffic, here's how to see if your mobile site is to blame:

1️⃣ Open Google Search Console for your website (must be done on desktop)
2️⃣ Go to "Performance" on the left
3️⃣ In the filters, click + NEW > Device > Compare > Apply
4️⃣ If you notice your mobile rankings have gone down a lot, but desktop is fairly steady, go to the "Core Web Vitals" option on the left
5️⃣ Open the "Mobile" report and check to see which pages are causing problems
6️⃣ Contact your SEO to tweak the articles if possible, and ask your web dev to fix technical problems

Have you seen major drops in your traffic since the end of June? Share more with us below!

Site owners are famous for having a victim mentality about losing traffic.

And sure, there are times when traffic dips and it's unexplainable.

But almost every time I see someone complain that Google "hates" their site or that they're being "punished" by the algorithm, the REAL truth is that they are offering less value than the sites they're up against. 💡

And nobody likes to hear that.

If you DO feel that way, here's the challenge:

1️⃣ Comment or DM with your site's URL
2️⃣ Tell me why you think the algorithm is against you (traffic dip? inability to rank for new pieces? etc?)
3️⃣ Let me know how long you've been publishing consistently and at what frequency (2x/week, 4x/month, etc.)

I'll then reply with 3 takeaways of why you may not be seeing results. (Fair warning — they'll probably be examples of how other sites are offering more value.)

I'll even send you a list of your top 5 search competitors. I've heard many times that the competitors we identify aren't even on our clients' radar much of the time!

Anybody up for it?

Guess who's getting a shiny new coat of paint?!

We're rebranding — Content Creators Agency is now Clara.

In Latin, Clara means "bright" and "clear."

🌈 BRIGHT: We aim to bring a colorful, exciting experience to each and every person our agency impacts — from clients to employees and everyone in between.
⚪ CLEAR: Every piece of content we create is clear in purpose, clear in message, and clear in results.

What do you think of the new logo?

A big h/t to for helping us with our logo and branding design. Gotta love amazing friends!

POV: Let’s never do a month like that again.

We are laughing here. But this is stress-releasing laughter after a whole bunch of tears.

Growing an agency is so freaking hard. It rips at my self-worth and challenges the confidence I’ve always had as an employee about the quality of my work.

April was the busiest and most horrible month we have ever gone through in 2+ years.

But we made it.

So… here’s a big “YAY” to newness. To work-life balance. To getting excited about new clients again.

Cheers, everybody. 🍾🥂

Look at this gorgeous group! We had a company meeting today to talk vision and our upcoming rebrand.

Growing an agency is hard, but SO worth it.

(Plus, I spy a new logo and company name...) 🥰

What kind of value is most important to you? 🤔

We're in a growth period as an agency where we've had to face the cold, hard truth that we were undercharging and often losing money because our rates weren't based on good numbers. 💸

In that period, as you would expect, some clients have pushed back on our prices because they don't think the services we provide are "worth" as much as we already charge them.

But when you're talking about high-quality content, the value can either go to you, the business owner (as a cost savings) or to your potential client/customer/patient.

I know that's not the only way pricing works. I get that done companies choose to grandfather some people with old pricing structures.

But if the only thing that matters to a business owner is how cheap the content will be... That's not a person I want to work with anymore.

There's nothing wrong with a healthy negotiation, but the value my agency provides isn't in cost savings. It's in quality, research, and optimization for the end-user.

My friend at is pretty smart.

He posted this on LinkedIn and I thought it was too brilliant not to share.

This photo is a great example of the woman I am at my best.

I am a bright, colorful, loud, opinionated, and sassy optimist.

Lately, that's not been the reality.

Our business is growing. 🥂

Spring is on the way. 🌸

The days of masks and 26636 other elements of C-related weirdness seems to be within my grasp. 😁

But I'm also struggling with hardcore imposter syndrome. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Being a mom in a non-traditional circumstance is wearing me down. 😩

And I'm having a daily fight with my self-esteem because stress eating has destroyed years of progress I've made with my health and weight. 🧁 (See previous sentence 😬)

This wasn't a scheduled post. I haven't been disciplined enough to plan my own content calendar much.

I took this selfie last week when I got my first haircut in a year (thanks, plague!).

But I woke up today feeling sort of... Anxious. Afraid. Alone. Overwhelmed.

It's okay to not feel great, or optimistic, or like you have it together.

I'm going to take those feelings and do my best to make them fuel a successful week.
