Harris Rosen, a self-made millionaire from Florida, didn’t just donate money he adopted an entire neighborhood. In Tangelo Park, Orlando, he set out to break the cycle of poverty by investing directly in its children and families.

He funded free daycare for all local preschoolers, provided parenting resources, and made an extraordinary promise: every high school graduate in the neighborhood would receive a full scholarship to college or trade school, covering tuition, room, and board.

The impact was nothing short of transformational. Crime rates plummeted. The high school graduation rate soared from a mere 25% to an incredible 100%. Families that once struggled to see a future now had one within reach.

What Harris Rosen proved is simple yet profound when you invest in education and community support, you don’t just change lives, you change the trajectory of an entire neighborhood.

❓ Myth vs Fact: Juvenile crime is on the rise. ❓This is a MYTH. Contrary to what social media may have you believe.

The FACT is that the juvenile arrest rate has been steadily declining across the U.S. for years. In Okaloosa County, our focus is on supporting youth to ensure they don't become part of these statistics, but rather, part of our community's success.

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of youth? Do you believe in the power of community and second chances? Project Rising Tide is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Board of Directors and help us guide the future of our organization.

We are a non-profit focused on elevating youth involved in the juvenile justice system and empowering our community through community service in Okaloosa County and surrounding areas. Our board is a small but mighty group of dedicated individuals who meet once a month via Zoom to discuss strategy, foster community connections, and ensure our programs are a success.

Serving on our board is a rewarding experience, not for the pay, but for the profound joy of helping to build and grow a vital community resource. While all are welcome to apply, we have a special interest in candidates with a passion for or experience in the following areas:

Juvenile Justice/Youth Advocacy: Individuals who have a deep understanding of or experience working with young people in the juvenile justice system.

Fundraising and Community Engagement: People who are excited about connecting with community members and local businesses to secure resources and build partnerships.

Grant Writing: We welcome experienced grant writers, as well as individuals with a passion for learning who are looking to gain experience and grow their skills in this critical area.

Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday begins today and will run through Sunday, August 31, giving families a full month of savings on essential school supplies and more!

The Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday includes exemptions for:
School supplies selling for $50 or less, including binders, notebooks, pens and pencils, and lunch boxes
Clothing, footwear, and apparel priced at $100 or less, including backpacks, pants, shoes, shirts, and sweaters
Learning aids selling for $30 or less, including interactive books, puzzles, and flashcards
Personal computers and accessories priced at $1,500 or less (for noncommercial home or personal use), including laptops, flash drives, printers, and headphones
