Inspired by a year of community collaboration, Oni's Flagship transforms a repurposed school bus into a Sailbus, a traveling monument and mobile museum that carries the stories of migration, labor, and community across South Jersey.

Through art, oral histories, and shared memory, the project honors the people and journeys that continue to shape the region.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the unveiling of Carriers of Light and Labor.

From the procession through Paterson, Silk City, to the ribbon cutting and lighting of the monument at City Hall, the evening celebrated immigrants, migrants, and laborers' contributions to North Jersey. Together, we honored the people whose experiences inspired this monument and the many hands that brought it to life.

Thank you to artist Michelle Angela Ortiz, our community partners, performers, and everyone who walked, celebrated, and shared this moment with us.

To everyone who stepped into the gallery, shared a story, or stood in reflection: thank you. 🕊️🎨

This project was always about more than art. It was a dedicated space to honor the unseen hands, deep resilience, and vital histories of New Jersey’s immigrant and migrant communities. Seeing our community gather to engage with these powerful stories was incredibly moving.

The conversations we started here do not end with the exhibition. Thank you for helping us honor our shared history.

New Jersey Monuments to Migration and Labor is coming to New Brunswick!

Discover ways to engage with this exciting public art initiative through classroom curriculum, artist-led symposiums, guided monument visits, and the NJMML Symposium taking place October 15th–17th, 2026.
