What are some missing or lost skills you’re finding in young employees or entrepreneurs?
Extra curious being a homeschooling family, as we already add in each of the elements she listed! I’m always looking for more creative and real world learning experiences for a well rounded education 💥
Let’s chat… what else would you add to this list?
At the risk of sounding like an old lady, can I just say that sometimes my mind is completely BLOWN when I realize just how much the world has changed since I was a kid.
Not all change is bad—I get that. There have been incredible advancements in medicine, technology, science . . . I could go on and on.
But somewhere in the blur of the world being available at our fingertips, curbside pickups, digital everything, and online orders, there are basic life skills our kids are missing out on.
Here are just a few of the things we're teaching our kids that are borderline lost arts these days:
1. Typing correctly on a computer keyboard—home row and all
2. Reading and writing cursive
3. Telling time on an analog clock
4. Ordering food from a restaurant both in-person or over the phone
5. Looking up words in a hard copy dictionary
6. Memorizing important phone numbers and addresses vs. just having them saved
I know our kids will teach US so many things over the years, too. They’re brilliant in so many ways I couldn’t have imagined at their age. But I'll continue teaching them our OG way of life, too.
Some things are just too important to disappear in a generation's time. ❤️
