If you’ve ever seen me speak, you know, I talk a lot about the moment I got life completely wrong and the moment I actually got it right. It is all about not having regret - taking the moment to pause and show up for people.
That’s really easy to say. It’s really hard to walk it.
I’m in a season of life right now where things are super busy. My time is incredibly precious when it comes to work and family and the idea of taking multiple weeks off to spend time on a basketball court, visiting family, or go on a cruise - felt so daunting and overwhelming and I honestly didn’t know if I could do it.
From July 7 to August 4, I will have been home for a grand total of five days. The businesses are still there. Fires still needed to be put out. Processes still needed to be addressed - the team still needed me. I am not quite at the hands off point yet. I got on the flight to Florida thinking “how in the world am I going to do this?” How can I be the support my team needs and also be fully present in the moments that I was there for?
I don’t think I did it perfectly but it has been the perfect few weeks getting to see Ada play and shine on the court, celebrating my Aunt Diane and Uncle Rick on an amazing 50 years, seeing my cousins, their kids, and celebrating my brother‘s 40th on a cruise in Key West to Bahamas. The businesses are still here.
I got to have lots of quiet moments with my 91 year-old grandmother (my favorite kind of time with her). There was one afternoon on the ship where it hit me that I will never look back and think - Man, I wish I stayed back and just worked a little bit harder.
I’ll look back and say, Man, I’m so glad I took the trip.
