Some fugitives don’t get very far, even with a good head start. What complicates their escape?
Donald Lane, former secret service agent and CEO of Python Security speaks to CNN's Taylor Romine regarding why many fugitives are captured a short distance from the escape point. “Sometimes these folks, they’ll plan to take action and do something, but they don’t think too much ahead about what they’re going to do after they escape,” Lane said. With respect to living in the wilderness for long Lane said, “It’s a great thought that you’re going to be able to do it, but unless you’re Ted Kaczynski and you have an actual dwelling that you can be in, you know that’s not going to work out too well for most people.”

In the past several months, a number of high-profile manhunts that have captured national attention have ended when the fugitives, despite many hours or days on the run, were found close by.

Donald Lane, a former Secret Service agent who helped protect two presidents, joins “NewsNation Now” to discuss the continuing manhunt for Vance Luther Boelter, the suspect accused of shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers and their spouses early Saturday. “He’s going to run out of resources eventually, and he’ll have to either surrender himself or be apprehended. Let’s just hope that no violence, other than what he’s done already, takes place before that happens,” Lane said.
