My first job in the summer of 1971 was at McDonald’s.
Crenshaw and Adams. Los Angeles.

We had cash registers with numbers only.
No pictures.
No drive-thru.
No breakfast menu.

Back then, something became clear to me.

Accuracy doesn’t come from working harder.
It comes from better systems.

That realization shaped everything that came next…

McDonald’s didn’t add pictures to cash registers for convenience.
They added them for accuracy.

By the 1970s, workplaces needed better systems
because human error was costing too much.

Pictures reduced mistakes.
Standardized training.
Made the system usable for everyone.

By the 1990s, those registers became color-coded touchscreens.

This wasn’t innovation for innovation’s sake.
It was about reducing cognitive load and improving data quality.

At 70 years old I don’t study AI because it’s trendy.
I study it because I’ve lived through every system that made it possible.

In 1971, my first job was at McDonald’s.
In 1997, I became an owner-operator.
In 2025, I earned my certification in Artificial Intelligence for Leaders from UT Austin.

Not because AI is new.
But because I’ve watched technology evolve for over 50 years.

Here’s the lesson that never changed:
Technology should assist judgment — not replace it.

Wisdom still matters.
