School Food and Wellness Group

School Food and Wellness Group School Food and Wellness Group consults with schools nationwide to run compliant, efficient and HEALTHY meal programs year round.

We recognize the challenges school administrators face – a limited budget and a small staff, to name a few. Managing the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and the Child and Adult Food Care Program (CACFP) shouldn’t be another burden. We help administer these programs and find healthy, affordable vendors to serve your students meals they will enjoy

What if we told you one of the most regulated kitchens in America is your local school cafeteria?

In our newest episode of Cafeteria Confessions, we sit down with Olga Botero, Registered Dietitian and School Food and Wellness Group team member, to talk regulations, compliance requirements, and the systems that shape every school meal served across the country.

From procurement rules to nutrition standards, this episode gives an inside look at what it really takes to operate a compliant school meal program and why compliance matters to ensuring students continue to receive balanced meals every day.

Season 2 of Cafeteria Confessions is officially here!🎙️

We’re kicking things off with The $1.60 Lunch, a conversation with Leslie Fowler, CEO of AFYA Food Service Management and former Chief of Nutrition at Chicago Public Schools, to talk about the financial reality behind school meals.

Most people hear schools receive around $4.60 per meal and assume that goes straight to food. The reality is much more complicated. Labor, equipment, and supplies all come out of that same reimbursement, often leaving schools with only about $1.60 to spend on the meal itself.

In this episode, we talk through the tradeoffs school nutrition teams face every day, from procurement and staffing to scratch cooking and kitchen infrastructure. It’s an honest conversation about what it really takes to feed students every day.

🥕 Wow! Look at these beautiful carrots grown by students at one of our partner schools, Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy 🥕🥕🥕🥕These purple “dragon” carrots were grown collectively by multiple grade levels of DJOD students who planted and watered the seeds over the past few months. The seeds were planted directly into the ground this winter (that is what carrots prefer-no transplanting long root vegetables). These 8th grade students harvested the carrots last week. Some were taken home by students and others will be used in class. They are our best carrot harvest yet and there are still a few more in the ground waiting to be pulled!
