With over 35 years of experience in wildlife displays through Antlers by Klaus and Nature by Klaus, weโ€™ve created hundreds of fish displays and worked with countless blanksโ€”most of which required costly, time-consuming corrections. Common issues included inaccurate anatomy, poor casting, and subpar details. After confirming these concerns with taxidermists and peers, we assembled a team of fish experts and a biologist, applying our molding expertise and dedicating three years to develop a line of state-of-the-art, anatomically accurate, and visually stunning fish reproductions.

Another new 3D-printed species has joined the Waters by Klaus lineup.

Meet our Common Snapping Turtle Reproductions.

Snapping turtles have a look all their own, from the heavy shell and rugged skin texture to the powerful head, legs, claws, and tail. Those distinctive details make them a great subject for taxidermists, wildlife artists, educators, and anyone building a complete freshwater habitat display.

As Waters by Klaus continues expanding into 3D printing, we are able to bring more species and supporting wildlife elements into the catalog while giving professional artists a detailed foundation for their own painting and finishing work.

Whether the turtle is the focal point or part of a larger aquatic scene, these new reproductions give you another way to add realism and variety to the finished display.

What do you do when the fish of a lifetime is too big for any available reproduction blank or it has unique features?

When Cullen Veiders pulled a monster Muskie from the St. Lawrence River near Lake Ontario in October 2022, he knew it was a fish he wanted preserved with a replica.

There was just one problem.

His taxidermist, Shane Indrebo, could not find an existing fish blank that came close enough to matching the Muskieโ€™s length, girth, and overall body shape.

Shane knew Waters by Klaus was already working with 3D modeling and 3D printing technology, so he reached out to Klaus.

Using the dimensions and reference information from Cullenโ€™s fish, we were able to create a custom Muskie reproduction blank matched specifically to his catch.

That gave Shane the foundation he needed to finish a reproduction that represented the fish his client actually caught, rather than trying to make an existing blank fit something it was never designed to match.

Since completing this project, we have received calls and emails from other taxidermists and anglers facing the same problem.

So we are making custom fish reproduction blanks a standard Waters by Klaus service.

It is a natural extension of work the Klaus family has already been doing for years through Antlers by Klaus, where photographs, measurements, and reference materials are used to recreate important trophies that otherwise could not be replaced.

Have a memorable fish that existing blanks simply cannot match?

Send us a DM, visit WatersByKlaus.com, or give our team a call to discuss your catch and get a quote for a customized fish blank.

Some of the biggest improvements in our revamped Esox lineup are hiding inside the fish.

In this highlight from our longer video, Klaus gives us a closer look at what Waters by Klaus is developing for our Muskellunge, Northern Pike, and Chain Pickerel reproductions as these species move from traditional casting to 3D printing.

That includes new possibilities for details professional fish artists care about, including the gill basket, gill rakers, and different head and mouth options.

These are the kinds of details that make the transition to this new manufacturing method so exciting. It gives us new ways to develop the reproductions, expand the options available to the artist, and continue improving the foundation you use for the finished piece.

And this is only a highlight.

Another new species has joined the Waters by Klaus 3D-printed lineup.

Our new 3D-Printed Sculpin Reproductions are officially available to order.

Sculpins may be small, but their distinctive broad heads, tapered bodies, prominent fins, and unique proportions make them a fascinating subject for fish artists and taxidermists. Our new reproductions are designed to preserve those recognizable features while giving you the blank as a foundation for your own painting and finishing work.

Use them as standalone specimens or incorporate them into a larger underwater habitat to add another level of detail and realism to the scene.

This is another step in the continued expansion of the Waters by Klaus 3D-printed catalog, with new fish species and aquatic elements coming online regularly.

Our new 3D-Printed Muskellunge Reproductions are officially available to order.

This launch is part of a much bigger project at Waters by Klaus: the complete revamp of our Esox lineup, including Muskellunge, Northern Pike, and Chain Pickerel.

As we transition these species from traditional casting to 3D printing, the goal is to give professional taxidermists and fish artists more options, greater consistency, faster fulfillment, and a better foundation for their finished work.

The new Muskie reproductions are one of the first major steps in that transition, and more Esox species and variations will be coming online as the lineup continues to evolve.

If you have a Muskellunge project coming up, the new 3D-printed reproductions are ready to order. Click on the link below to see the currently available options.

Moving a fish reproduction from traditional casting to 3D printing is not as simple as scanning it and hitting โ€œprint.โ€

In this video, Klaus gives us another look at a species currently making that transition at Waters by Klaus: the Lake Trout.

One of the details we continue to work through is fin translucency.

Different fish present different challenges. Some species call for significant transparency in the fins, while others lose much of that translucencyas they grow or naturally have very little or none to begin with. That means the solution cannot simply be the same for every species.

Our goal is to get those details right while taking advantage of what 3D printing can offer professional fish artists: more sizes, more poses and variations, improved consistency, faster fulfillment, and ultimately a better experience from ordering through finishing.

We are continuing to work through the Waters by Klaus catalog species by species, and new 3D-printed reproductions are coming online regularly.

This finished display has a little more meaning than just showing what our new 3D-printed habitat elements can do.

Klaus recently gifted the completed saltwater scene to his mother, and there is a personal connection hidden right in the middle of it.

On one of their fishing trips together, she caught a snapper, the same type of fish featured in this display.

The finished piece also gives you a look at where Waters by Klaus is headed with our soon-to-be-released 3D-printed corals and other saltwater habitat elements. These pieces are being developed to give professional fish artists and taxidermists more options for building complete aquatic environments around their reproductions.

For Klaus, though, this particular display also brings back a pretty good fishing memory.

Ever wonder what is actually inside one of our new 3D-printed fish blanks?

These photos give you a look inside one of the massive Brown Trout reproductions we have been developing at Waters by Klaus.

Instead of filling the entire body with solid material, our newer manufacturing methods allow us to engineer an internal support structure that helps remove a substantial amount of unnecessary weight while still maintaining the strength the blank needs.

That becomes especially important as fish reproductions get larger. Less unnecessary weight can make a big difference when a professional fish artist is handling, assembling, finishing, transporting, and ultimately mounting the piece.

For us, 3D printing is not just about changing how a fish blank is made. It gives us new ways to rethink the product itself and build better tools for the artists who use them.

Weโ€™re rebuilding our entire Esox lineup, and that means some big changes are coming for fish artists.

In this highlight from a longer video, Klaus gives us a look at what Waters by Klaus is working on with our Muskie, Northern Pike, and Chain Pickerel reproductions. As the lineup is revamped, these species will transition from traditional casting methods to 3D-printed fish reproductions.

For professional taxidermists and fish artists, that opens the door to more options, including additional variations in size, posture, and mouth position. It also gives us a manufacturing process that can help us produce and deliver orders more efficiently.

The goal is simple: give fish artists more choices and a better canvas for their work.

This is just a highlight from the full conversation.

Things are getting a little crowded around here.

In this highlight from our latest shop tour, Klaus takes you through the Waters by Klaus 3D printing and scanning area and shows just how much it has grown since our last look.

Weโ€™ve added several new printers as we continue expanding our 3D capabilities, and weโ€™re quickly running out of room.

The good news? That is about to change.

Construction is underway on a new facility that will allow us to easily quadruple the size of our 3D printing operation, giving both Waters by Klaus and Antlers by Klaus plenty of room to keep growing.

Take a quick look behind the scenes with Klaus, then watch the full tour to see everything that is happening in the shop.
