Nothing says home like a basket of ripe red tomatoes on the counter, just waiting to become something comforting. 🍅 Here’s my cozy kitchen recipe for a simple fresh tomato freezer sauce, plus 6 smart ways to keep those tomatoes tasting garden-fresh for weeks.

INGREDIENTS:
• 3 lb ripe red tomatoes, washed
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 1 tsp salt, plus more to taste
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 1 tsp sugar, optional if tomatoes are tart
• 1 tsp dried oregano
• 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes, optional
• 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
• 1 tbsp lemon juice

DIRECTIONS:
1. Store tomatoes stem-side down at room temperature if using within 3–5 days. Keep them out of direct sun.
2. For very ripe tomatoes, place them in a breathable paper bag or a loose plastic storage bag with a paper towel, then refrigerate up to 1 week.
3. To make sauce, cut a small X on the bottom of each tomato. Simmer in boiling water for 30–45 seconds, then move to ice water. Peel and chop.
4. Warm olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and cook 5 minutes, until soft.
5. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds, just until fragrant.
6. Add chopped tomatoes, salt, pepper, sugar, oregano, and red pepper flakes. Simmer uncovered 30–40 minutes, stirring often, until thickened.
7. Stir in basil and lemon juice. Taste and adjust seasoning.
8. Cool completely, then spoon into freezer-safe bags or containers. Flatten bags to save space and freeze up to 3 months.

TIP: For whole tomatoes, freeze them washed and dried in a single layer, then bag them. For cut tomatoes, refrigerate in a sealed container and use within 2 days. A little care now means sweet tomato goodness later, just like Grandma would save it.

A little old-fashioned kitchen wisdom, sweetheart: strawberries can hide tiny garden hitchhikers, so a gentle salt-water soak helps clean them well before we turn them into something lovely. 🍓

Here’s my cozy way to wash them and make a simple bowl of sugared strawberries with cream — fresh, safe, and delicious.

INGREDIENTS
For cleaning:
• 1 lb fresh strawberries
• 4 cups cool water
• 1 tablespoon salt
• 2 cups fresh cool water, for rinsing

For serving:
• 2 tablespoons sugar or honey, to taste
• 1 teaspoon lemon juice
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1 cup whipped cream, yogurt, or vanilla ice cream
• Optional: fresh mint or shortcake biscuits

DIRECTIONS
1. Pick through the strawberries and remove any mushy or spoiled berries. Do not hull them yet — keeping the tops on helps prevent them from soaking up too much water.

2. In a large bowl, stir 4 cups cool water with 1 tablespoon salt until dissolved.

3. Add the strawberries and let them soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Gently swish them once or twice. If you see little white bits or tiny movement, don’t panic — this is exactly why we wash garden fruit well.

4. Lift the strawberries out of the salt water and place them in a colander. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water for 30 to 60 seconds to remove any saltiness.

5. Pat the berries dry with a clean towel or paper towels. Now hull them and slice into halves or quarters.

6. Place sliced strawberries in a clean bowl. Add sugar or honey, lemon juice, and vanilla. Stir gently and let sit for 10 minutes, until glossy and juicy.

7. Spoon the strawberries over whipped cream, yogurt, ice cream, or warm shortcake biscuits.

TIP: Don’t soak strawberries too long, dear — 5 to 10 minutes is plenty. Always dry them well so they stay sweet, firm, and fresh.

This cozy slow cooker creamy beef and noodles is the kind of supper that makes the whole kitchen smell like Grandma’s house. Just pour the broth over the beef, let it simmer low and slow, then stir in the creamy goodness at the end. Warm, filling, and always asked for twice. 🥣

INGREDIENTS:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
3 cups chicken broth
1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
1 packet (1 oz) dry onion soup mix
8 oz cream cheese, cubed
12 oz egg noodles
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, optional but delicious
2 tbsp chopped parsley, optional for serving

DIRECTIONS:
1. Place the raw ground beef into the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Break it up slightly with a spoon.

2. Pour the chicken broth over the beef. Add the cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce if using.

3. Cover and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours or on HIGH for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, stirring once halfway through if you’re home. The beef should be fully cooked and tender.

4. Carefully break up the cooked beef with a spoon or potato masher until crumbly. If there is excess grease, skim a little from the top.

5. Stir in the cubed cream cheese until it melts into the sauce and turns creamy.

6. Cook the egg noodles separately according to package directions until just tender. Drain well.

7. Stir the cooked noodles into the slow cooker. Let everything sit on WARM for 5 to 10 minutes so the noodles soak up that creamy sauce.

8. Taste and add a pinch more pepper if needed. Sprinkle with parsley before serving.

TIP: If you like it extra creamy, stir in 1/4 cup sour cream right before serving. This is wonderful with green beans, peas, or a simple buttered roll on the side.

This creamy sausage rigatoni is the kind of cozy pan supper that makes everyone wander into the kitchen before dinner is even called. Rich, hearty, a little garlicky, and wrapped in a silky sauce — no wonder it’s always the first dish to disappear. 🍝

INGREDIENTS:
• 1 lb rigatoni pasta
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 lb Italian sausage, mild or hot, casings removed
• 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
• 4 cloves garlic, minced
• 2 tbsp tomato paste
• 1 can (14.5 oz) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 1/2 cup chicken broth or reserved pasta water
• 1 tsp Italian seasoning
• 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, optional
• 1/2 tsp salt, plus more for pasta water
• 1/2 tsp black pepper
• 3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
• 2 cups baby spinach, optional
• 2 tbsp chopped fresh basil or parsley

DIRECTIONS:
1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook rigatoni until al dente according to package directions. Reserve 1 cup pasta water, then drain.

2. While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.

3. Add the diced onion and cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, just until fragrant.

4. Stir in the tomato paste and let it cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor. Add crushed tomatoes, chicken broth, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes if using, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5-7 minutes.

5. Lower the heat and pour in the heavy cream. Stir gently until the sauce turns creamy and rosy. Add Parmesan and stir until melted.

6. Add the cooked rigatoni to the skillet and toss until every piece is coated. If the sauce feels too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water until it’s just right.

7. Stir in spinach if using and let it wilt for 1-2 minutes. Finish with basil or parsley and a little extra Parmesan on top.

TIP: Serve with warm garlic bread and a simple green salad. This one tastes like Sunday dinner, even on a busy weeknight.

Is foil really all you need? For a dirty barbecue grate, it sure can be the little helper that gets supper started. Once that grill is clean and hot, these juicy BBQ chicken thighs taste like a backyard hug from Grandma. 🍗

INGREDIENTS:
• 2 lbs bone-in or boneless chicken thighs
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
• 1 teaspoon kosher salt
• 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
• 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
• 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
• 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
• 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
• 3/4 cup barbecue sauce
• 1 tablespoon honey
• 1 teaspoon apple c***r vinegar

FOR THE GRILL:
• 1 sheet heavy-duty aluminum foil
• 1 tablespoon vegetable oil for the grate

DIRECTIONS:
1. Heat the grill to medium-high, about 400°F. While it warms, crumple the foil into a loose ball. Hold it with long tongs and scrub the hot grate until the stuck-on bits loosen.
2. Carefully wipe the grate with a folded paper towel dipped in vegetable oil, using tongs.
3. Pat chicken dry. Rub with olive oil, then season with salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and cayenne if using.
4. In a small bowl, stir together barbecue sauce, honey, and apple c***r vinegar.
5. Place chicken on the grill. Cook 5-7 minutes per side for boneless thighs, or 8-10 minutes per side for bone-in, turning as needed.
6. Brush with sauce during the last 5 minutes of cooking, flipping once or twice so it gets sticky and glossy without burning.
7. Chicken is done when the thickest part reaches 165°F. Rest 5 minutes before serving.

TIP: Foil is wonderful for sturdy grill grates, but don’t use it on delicate nonstick surfaces. Serve this chicken with corn, coleslaw, or buttery potatoes for a cozy cookout plate.

This cozy crockpot beef is the kind of supper that makes the whole house smell like Grandma’s kitchen. ❤️ With just 3 simple ingredients, it cooks low and slow until it falls apart with the touch of a fork, swimming in a rich onion gravy.

INGREDIENTS:
• 3 to 4 lb beef chuck roast
• 1 packet dry onion soup mix
• 2 cups beef broth

DIRECTIONS:
1. Pat the chuck roast dry with paper towels. If there are any extra-large pieces of fat on the outside, trim them lightly, but don’t remove all the marbling—that’s what helps make the beef tender and juicy.

2. Place the chuck roast in the bottom of a 6-quart crockpot. If your roast is very wide, you can cut it into 2 large pieces so it fits snugly.

3. Sprinkle the dry onion soup mix evenly over the top of the beef, making sure a little gets down around the sides too.

4. Pour the beef broth around the edges of the roast. Try not to rinse all the seasoning off the top; just let the broth settle in the bottom of the crockpot.

5. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours, until the beef is very tender and pulls apart easily with two forks. Low and slow is the secret here, so don’t rush it if you can help it.

6. Carefully lift the roast out onto a plate or shallow dish. Shred it into big tender pieces, removing any excess fatty bits as you go.

7. Stir the juices in the crockpot to make a simple onion gravy, then return the shredded beef to the pot. Spoon the gravy over the meat and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes so every bite stays moist.

8. Serve hot over creamy mashed potatoes, buttered egg noodles, rice, or tucked into warm sandwich rolls.

TIP: For thicker gravy, whisk 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water. Stir it into the crockpot juices and cook on HIGH for 10 to 15 minutes before adding the beef back in.

This Pressure Cooker Fettuccine Alfredo is pure comfort in a bowl — creamy, buttery, garlicky, and so silky it tastes like it came from a little Italian restaurant. 🍝
It’s a one-pot supper Grandma would set on the table with warm bread and a proud smile.

INGREDIENTS:
12 oz fettuccine, broken in half if needed
3 cups low-sodium chicken broth or vegetable broth
1 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 oz cream cheese, softened and cubed
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup milk, only if needed to loosen sauce
2 tablespoons chopped parsley, optional
Extra Parmesan, for serving

DIRECTIONS:
1. Add the broth, heavy cream, butter, garlic, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to the pressure cooker insert. Stir gently to combine.

2. Add the fettuccine in a crisscross pattern so the noodles do not clump together. Press the pasta down just enough to mostly submerge it, but do not over-stir.

3. Lock the lid in place and set the valve to sealing. Cook on HIGH pressure for 6 minutes.

4. When the cooking time is done, carefully do a quick release. Open the lid once the pressure has fully dropped.

5. Stir the pasta well. It may look a little loose at first, but keep stirring gently — the pasta starch will help the sauce turn smooth and creamy.

6. Add the cream cheese and Parmesan. Stir until both melt completely into the sauce.

7. If the Alfredo is thicker than you like, add milk a splash at a time until it is glossy and spoonable. Taste and add more salt or pepper if needed.

8. Let the pasta rest for 2-3 minutes so the sauce thickens beautifully, then serve warm with parsley and extra Parmesan on top.

TIP: To make it a full supper, stir in cooked chicken, sautéed shrimp, or steamed broccoli right at the end. Best served immediately while the sauce is soft, rich, and cozy.

Started it before church, and by supper the whole kitchen smelled like sweet, smoky comfort. This slow cooker pulled pork cooks low and slow until it falls apart with a fork, then gets coated in a sticky brown sugar BBQ sauce that keeps everybody sneaking bites from the pot. 🍯

INGREDIENTS:
3 to 4 lb pork shoulder or pork butt, trimmed of excess fat
1 large yellow onion, sliced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup barbecue sauce
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup apple c***r vinegar
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon yellow mustard
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
2 teaspoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
1/2 cup chicken broth or apple juice

DIRECTIONS:
1. Place the sliced onion in the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker. Set the pork shoulder on top.

2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, brown sugar, apple c***r vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne if using, and chicken broth or apple juice.

3. Pour the sauce over the pork, turning the meat once to coat it well. Sprinkle the minced garlic over the top.

4. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 9 hours, or on HIGH for 4 to 5 hours, until the pork is very tender and shreds easily with a fork.

5. Carefully lift the pork into a large bowl. Shred with two forks, discarding any large fatty pieces.

6. Skim excess grease from the sauce in the slow cooker if needed. Return the shredded pork to the pot and stir until every bite is coated.

7. Cook uncovered on HIGH for 20 to 30 minutes, stirring once or twice, until the sauce thickens and turns glossy and sticky.

TIP: Serve on toasted buns with creamy coleslaw, tuck into tacos, or spoon over mashed potatoes with pickles on the side for a cozy Sunday supper.
