This article from the Harvard Business Review breaks down the difference between Strategy and Purpose.  Good strategy has traditionally been seen as the key to business success. More recently, purpose has become an essential element of doing business. The third element to this dynamic lies in your company culture. Is your company culture aligned with your purpose?

"The author thinks of purpose, strategy, and culture as a triangle: Each angle connects with and shapes the other two, and if one changes, the other two must evolve and adjust to maintain balance and shape, or the triangle breaks and falls apart." “Let me call your attention to a great power which is under your control. A power greater than poverty, greater than the lack of education, greater than all of your fears and superstitions combined. It is the power to take possession of your own mind and direct it to whatever ends you may desire.”
-Dale Carnegie

Happy Friday Everyone! Today I wanted to share that quote to remind you that YOU have the power over your own mind. It is up to you to push yourself in the direction you want to go. Send this to someone who may need this reminder today! 🤍

From the first time I ever stepped foot on a plane I have loved to travel. There is nothing more thrilling to me than exploring a new place—different sites, sounds, cultures and customs, and foods. It lights up my soul and has enriched my life in countless ways.

It has been said that the world is the best classroom and I couldn't agree more. I have learned so many lessons and skills from traveling. Acceptance, patience, and resourcefulness are just a few.

What are some of your best travel experiences and what have they taught you? Would love to hear!

There’s an old expression: “If you love something, set it free.  If it comes back, it’s yours.  If it doesn’t, it never was”.

Thinking about that quote now, the same can be said for our business goals and aspirations.  There have been many times in my life when I have set a goal and worked hard to achieve it, and it didn't come together. And pushing harder to get it made it even more elusive.

I believe the reason for that is that the goal wasn't something that my heart truly desired. It was a goal that I had set in my mind but didn't really feel in my soul. Or I wasn't willing to pay the price to get it.

For instance, one of my original goals was to be the CEO of a large company. I was on that track but my heart was telling me I wanted something else— a family and to travel and make an impact in other people's lives—which I did through Maloto—my charity in Malawi.

So I let that goal go and have not regretted it. I love the life that I am living now and the other goals that I have manifested. Are you willing to step aside and let all the things you desire come to you?

As a long time yoga practitioner, I am regularly struck by how the lessons I learn on the mat translate to my life. Like many of us–growing up–I was taught to work hard to pursue my personal and business goals. This discipline enabled me to train for and complete multiple marathons, become the youngest and first woman Vice President of a major national fitness chain and achieve many other goals.

But at some point, employing hard work, grit and determination wasn’t enough and hurling myself forward at any cost was no longer working. Running 60 miles and working 60+ hours a week with very little rest left me broken down both physically and emotionally.. There is harmony in finding ways to balance ease and effort. It is easy to be on go mode all the time, however your mind, body, and spirit will eventually burn out without finding time to slow down.

Being a leader is both a privilege and responsibility. And one of the most important principles of leadership is being aware of how you show up for people. Whether it is as a parent to your kids or as a boss to your employees, I fully subscribe to the "so much more is caught than taught" model. Who you are—and how you say what you say—speak far more loudly than the words you actually use.

Leaders are human too and have their own problems and challenges—good days and bad. However, when you are in a position of authority, you have to put the needs of those you lead ahead of your own because you have the power and potential to influence peoples careers or in some cases their whole lives.

Here are 3 tips to ensure that you show up as a great leader:

1.When you have a meeting with an employee, give them your undivided attention. Put your phone away and don't check emails on your computer.

2.Ask them questions about themselves unrelated to work and be genuinely interested in their answers. People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

3.When you are in a brainstorming or problem solving meeting, let everyone else weigh in with their opinions before you speak. Don't cut people off in a group setting, even if you don't agree with what is being said. You can always go back and talk to them privately to share the reasons you don't agree with their viewpoint.

I believe that every human being on the planet is here to offer their unique gifts to the world and to serve others.

To me, the pursuit of excellence is not about perfection or getting to a certain goal. It is more about showing up every single day and doing whatever it takes to get a little better at whatever it is you are trying to achieve. It's about the practice and who you become as a result of the pursuit.

Pursuing excellence leads. Achieving the rewards follows.

I know a lot of entrepreneurs who, when they first start out, try to do everything themselves to save money—but that is a mistake. Viewing hiring personnel as an investment and not as an expense is a crucial mindset shift that every entrepreneur must make. If you don’t have a team, you really don’t have a business.

In order to be successful, you should be spending at least 80% of your time on activities that only you can do. For me, that is creating content, talking to prospective clients and working with my existing clients. My team helps me with everything else–from bookkeeping to technology.

Here for my top tips to help you decide what you should outsource and how to find the right team.

If you need help with how to build a team or any other issues with growth or strategy, DM me and I would be happy to help.
