No, Reviews do not fall from the sky...

This is my 3rd post for service providers. If you want to look up the first two, just scroll down on my profile. I want to talk about reviews today.

Reviews are crucial for your success in two ways:
1) Google will use them as a significant ranking factor which means, if someone has more reviews and more recent reviews than you, he will have a direct advantage and show up higher on maps.
2) Customers will almost always use reviews as a way to decide which business to call. If you have good recent reviews, they will call you.

How do you get reviews?

Itโ€™s simple, ask your customers! If done properly, you can get 50% or more of your customers to leave reviews. Whats the best way to do that? First of all, tell them in person when you complete the job that reviews are important to you and that youโ€™ll send them a link later to post one. You can also use a special RFID card or just send them a link on the spot to post a review.

Then wait a day and send them a text message the next morning personally asking them to leave a review. If you can customize this message, that's even better and you will get even more reviews but a highly optimized general request will also work.

If you want the exact templates we use for your specific industry, comment your industry below.
Itโ€™s also very important to follow up, if they do leave a review on Google, reply to that review publicly. If they donโ€™t leave a review, wait a couple of days and send them another text reminding them.

Itโ€™s possible to buy reviews, we try not to recommend it and you have to be very careful with it. This is a gray area and I would always recommend getting reviews from actual customers before you consider it.

You can also ask your friends, many of which you probably helped in the past to write a review for you.

How many reviews do I need?

3-4 reviews will get you started ranking and your profile will be in business but you want to aim for having at least 20-30 reviews to rank high and appear professional.

What if I get bad reviews?

Bad reviews are part of business and if they are very few bad ones in a sea of good ones you should be ok. There are many ways to remove bad reviews and these have to be considered on a case by cases basis. Happy to give some free advice on the subject if you give me some background information.

It all sounds very basic but the majority of service providers donโ€™t give their review section much attention and they are losing big time. Reviews are the easiest, least time-consuming and most efficient way to boost your rankings.

Today, I'm excited to share my second post on the same topic, diving deeper into the crucial task of setting up your Google Business profile. This step is essential because if your business isn't on Google Maps, it's like being invisible online. And for local service providers, this is exactly how potential customers find you when they search online.

To paint a clear picture, let's say you're in Tampa, FL, and in need of an electrician. Naturally, you'd search "electrician near me" on Google. The search results will display Google Maps results, and if your business is missing from that section, you're missing out on valuable opportunities. Majority of people click and call directly from these Google Maps results.
In a future post, I'll dive into tips on ranking higher on Google Maps. However, for now, let's focus on the basics of signing up!
Here's what you need to set up your Google Business profile using an electrician as an example:

Business Name: Add a keyword to your business name to improve visibility. For example, you can register your business as "High Light Electricians" if your business name is "High Light."

Business Category: Select your main service as the main category, and add additional services as additional categories. Make sure these additional services are ones you actually offer. For instance, your main category could be "Electrician," and additional categories could include "Electric vehicle charging station" and "Electrical installation service."

Description: Craft a concise description of your business or services. Keep in mind that Google shows only the first 250 characters unless the user clicks "more..." So, make those initial characters count.

Opening Date: Google doesn't verify this information, so you can choose any date you want. If you want to appear as a seasoned business, you can select an earlier date.

Phone Number: Provide a reliable, non-VOIP contact number that customers can reach you on. This number will be used in various places moving forward, so it's important to keep it accessible.

Website: Although not mandatory, having a website is highly recommended for better results. If you don't have one, Google can create a basic website for you, and there are also AI tools available to help you create one easily. A good website will attract more visitors and increase the chances of potential customers contacting you.

Business Location: Choose the appropriate option based on your setupโ€”whether you have a physical location, operate as a service area business, or fall into the hybrid category. If you serve customers at their location, you can list up to 20 service areas within a 2-hour drive from your base location.

Business Hours: List your actual business hours accurately. For example, if you don't provide services after 7pm or you're closed on Sundays, make sure to reflect that in your listed hours.

Photos: Use real, authentic images that give customers an inside look into your business. Examples include photos of your company vehicles, store signage, workers on a job, and completed projects. Avoid using promotional or stock photos that may come across as artificial.

Q&A Section: This is a valuable section where customers can ask questions related to your business. Proactively add and answer questions to provide helpful information for potential customers.

Post Updates: Utilize this section to share updates about your business. Keep it updated periodically with information such as special events, holiday sales, or general updates on recent activities.

Messages: Enable messaging if you can commit to responding to customer inquiries in a timely manner. However, if you're unable to reply promptly, it's better to turn this option off for better customer experience.

Most people search Google for a service provider. What they usually see is the following:
4 x Sponsored ads
3 x Google Map results
Many Organic results padded with some more ads.

You want to be in all 3 sections and that requires a full online presence. You also should have a system to capture leads from all this incoming traffic and you should have social media accounts in the major channels as people may look you up.

We have a full DIY guide that explains what needs to be done. Let us know if you want it. We are also regularly posting videos on social media so make sure to follow us.

"ReachBravo took care of the online marketing side of things for my electrical business. They built a neat website, handled ads and social media. I started getting more calls, and folks were saying good things about my business online. They're local business owners too, so they get it. Definitely a smart move for any small business owner in South Florida."
