She Prayed for Food, and an Unexpected Person Answered
A woman struggling to afford food reportedly turned to prayer, asking for help.
An atheist who learned about her situation decided to send her groceries—not because he shared her faith, but because he wanted to demonstrate that the help had come from him rather than from God.
When the woman received the food, however, she thanked God for providing it. She explained that she had prayed for help, and the groceries had eventually arrived. To her, the fact that the person who delivered them had different beliefs did not change the meaning of her prayer.
The exchange illustrates how the same act can be understood in completely different ways. The atheist saw himself as the direct source of the help, while the woman viewed his actions as the means through which her prayer was answered.
Her interpretation was summed up in the phrase: “When God orders, even the devil obeys.”
