Lately Monday at the office looks a lot like this. Today we met with the 15 communities surrounding our Banna Tenda farm and Jimara Estate to present our Community Benefit & Protection Charter: a commitment to transparency, accountability, shared growth and protecting both people and land for generations to come. Community work can be the most fulfilling when approached with care, honesty and the dignity of those who own and have cared for the land. Muhammed keeps towering over us like he gave birth to both Aisha and I 😆

After our community meeting, we spent the rest of the day documenting trees that have stood here long before us. Because when communities are asked to choose between protecting the environment and putting food on the table, we have to prove that preservation can also create economic opportunity. Sometimes the most valuable thing is what already exists if we choose to see it differently. Seeing this take shape day in and out has been one of my favorite parts of the process 🌱

Today, the road came to us. Not just to our farm but to the people of Jimara and my heart is happy. Rural development is justice to people who have waited for years and today I am so happy to see it come to our ancestral land and home to my business. We want to thank the government and president Barrow. This 11.2km of road is not infrastructure. It is a declaration: that rural Gambia belongs in the future and we did not get it wrong 😅 for a while I wondered if going all way to URR to start a farm was the smartest idea. I told President Barrow and the government that this road is our road as we stand to benefit the most from it. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Dear France, we are not buying it. No. Supporting African sovereignty and dignity does not automatically mean supporting military rule. We are capable of criticizing both foreign interference and authoritarianism at the same time but right now our focus is France and Macron’s statement. 🇧🇫

Some days motherhood feels loud and chaotic and some days it feels incredibly quiet. My babies are not home right now and I spent most of the day sleeping, waking up and missing them a lot. Yesterday I posted a screenshot of my conversation with Abu and him wanting to get me flowers because he knows how much I love flowers. Abu is my 13 year old and chat.

saw my story and after seeing the story, the beautiful team at Pretty Petals Gambia surprised me with real flowers on Abu’s behalf. I honestly cried. Not because of the flowers themselves but because of the thoughtfulness, kindness and love behind it. It takes so little to remind someone they are seen. To Pretty Petals, thank you for turning a sweet moment between a mother and her son into something I will never forget. And to my Boo Boo, your love is already more than enough for me but I got your flowers and I am so grateful. 🤍
The flowers are beautiful! I buy myself flowers and I will definitely be getting all my flowers from them. Support our local businesses because in the end, this can only be them. ❤️🤍 ❤️

My entire family keeps saying lost weight 😭🤣 Trying to do business in Africa will humble you very quickly. I was never big to begin with, but the stress lately? That’s a whole new book I’ll write one day 😅 From people assuming we will fail because the business is led by a woman… to communities looking at me like “this tiny girl is supposed to pull this off?” 🤣 The first thing people say when they meet me is always: “Wow… you’re so small. And so young.” At that point they have already lost faith before I even open my mouth 😭😂

I have genuinely tried to gain weight. I just can’t. Maybe if people stopped stressing me out every day, it would help 😆 Then add the daily hustlers trying to hustle and test me because they think I am soft. My God. African entrepreneurship is not for the weak. But giving up is not an option now. I am in way too deep 🤣 A childhood friend called me today and for the first time in a long time, I actually vented instead of pretending everything is fine. And honestly? It felt good. African problems are unique, but so are our ambitions. We will figure it out one way or another 🇬🇲🇬🇲🇬🇲🌍

Me and my twin. Everyone says my dad spoiled me and he is the reason why I turned out the way I did 😆 when we fight, all my siblings and step mothers stay out because they won’t be around when we make up. People that go to our mosque to pray and did not know I was his child are usually shocked when they find out he is my dad. 😅 Trust me, I am not adopted, I am just deeply loved by my dad. My dad has always been my best friend since I was little and he never clipped my wings. He trusted my heart and integrity before anyone ever told me I was good and most of my self believe comes from him. Losing our mother at such a young age and not having our maternal side of our family in The Gambia, he made sure we never felt her absence, feel like outsiders or the children of a foreigner. He served both as our mother and father and fiercely protected us against everything. He educated us in Islam and humanity. Baba we are so grateful for you and pray that Allah always keeps you here with us.
