STYLING your living room. A room can be transformed just by paying attention to the details. Below is a list of areas that can be upgraded and ideas on how to upgrade them…
Wall decoration - (last week’s tweak and big component of any room). To recap, you can do a gallery wall of art (work with in a color palette, get creative with layout, and not everything has to be framed!). Go bold with wall paper or create depth and movement with mirrors. Remember floating shelves can hold art too and decor can be made from organic/ natural elements (think branches, baskets etc).
Pillows - add interest with color, texture, pattern, shape and size! Varying the size and shape pillows on a couch can add depth and personality. See cover photo above.
Blanket/throw - I love to add texture with a beautiful throw in a color that ties to it some other element of decor in the room.
Coffee table(s) - the right shape and material of a well placed coffee table or tables can elevate the whole room. It is a great way to balance shapes in a room. For example, very rectangular couch can be paired with round coffee table to soften the lines and intensity of the room.
Rugs - a great way to add character and color to a room. Keep in mind how much traffic the rug will get and choose quality and dark/light color accordingly. Thicker, darker rugs will hold up longer in higher traffic areas. (Or ones that can be washed!) Size is also important. Most often I see rugs that are too small for the room. Furniture legs and human feet should not be interfering with the corners of the rug in simple everyday use of the room. Corners can be under furniture to keep the rug in place and minimize tripping.
Plants! - these really transform and bring life, beauty and calm to a space, even if they are faux. Pick a realistic looking fake though please!

Did you miss the new series ‘Tuesday Tweaks’ yesterday? Here’s a recap!
Client wants to update the fireplace area in her new home in a modern farmhouse style.
Budget: $
Changes that will make the biggest impact:
- brighten brick
- update mantle
Option 1: whitewash darker bricks and mortar, lighten mantle color.
Option 2a&b: whitewash all brick to desired color, add weathered mantle, and/or add sconces for detail.
Option 3: paint brick white, refinished wood mantle, style with round decor to offset rectangle shapes of brick/mantle/fireplace.
Which one is your favorite??

CLOSET ORGANIZATION. It’s spring cleaning and wardrobe switching time!
I’m going to focus on closets for clothes today because they demand the most use and require the most maintenance usually.
Quick fixes:
- move everything out of your closet that’s impeding you from seeing what you actually have. (Floor especially, could there be room for another lower rod?)
- evaluate how much space you are working with (work within your limits and maximize where you are wasting space - like the back of the door.)
- matching hangers and matching baskets or bins are an immediate upgrade (I prefer clear bins or labeled baskets for quick reference).
- choose categories of items and specific areas for them….stick to them! (accessories, dresses, pants, long sleeves, short sleeves, dressy, casual etc.)
- as always, things you use the most should be the most accessible. Lesser used items go high or in a labeled box).
- space saving bags are great for bulky winter items or blankets and pillows in a linen closet.
Closet systems are great but take a little time to measure and set up. It’s best to choose one when you are clear on how you are using your closet and what combination of drawers, rods, and shelves will work best for you.
Remember, whatever disorganization you deal with externally, will benefit you internally. Depending on where the closet is in your home it could also energetically effect a certain area of your life, but more on that later.
Questions, just ask.

BOOK ORGANIZATION. You guys voted on organization tips as your number one need, so I’m going to start with books. I love books - big walls of them, shelves around the room of them, piles of them. But they are something that often creates to physical and visual clutter in the home. So I usually deal with them first when helping my clients.
Here are a few ways to organize them:
-alphabetical (by title or author)
-by genre
-by size
-by visual pattern (see first pic above or balance books with decorative objects/plants)
-stagger stacking horizontal and/or vertical
-functionality/usage (books you refer to less go high/hard to reach places)
-project (my favorite, since I always have a project brewing)
-type (paperback/hardcover)
-backwards - so you see the pages and not the spines (not my favorite but good if you never need to find a book)
A big note: try to have large amounts of books in one place in each room or in matching pieces in the same room. The more mismatched bookshelves filled with books and small items the more cluttered and disorganized a room will feel.
First pic 😍

Quick restyling project using what I had. Tip to make things look more organized in high visibility zones: use containers to store lots of smaller o heavy. Choose containers of the same color/material (or matching ones) that fill the space proportionally. This creates more calm visually and mentally. The more mis matched and random sized things are, the more chaos visually and mentally. Try it and see what happens. Let me know if you want an extra pair of eyes 👀

DOOR 1 or DOOR 2?

Behind door 2: you are Languishing

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for me and I’ve been pondering these words explored recently in the . TLDR: they are spot on.
It seems that there is this juxtaposition of being excited about things opening up again and an anxiety around how to relate to the world again face to face. I’ll speak personally; it’s overwhelming if I start to think too much about it. We have just been through such an intense time. I’m left feeling a bit tender and hesitant. So I’m languishing on the downlow but flourishing any chance/moment I can.

What are you doing to deal with Election Day stress? 🧐I’m organizing to *try* to take my mind off things even just for a little while. But my holiday flights were changed by the airline, my younger son got bored on zoom and started cutting his own hair, the cat climbed to the top of a tree, and I got a scheduling curve ball for tomorrow. Looks like I may attack a few more drawers before days end....🤪
