Power of Gestures - Gesturing is our first language. As an infant, we gestured fluently before we could speak (pointing, reaching, signaling). Research shows that gestures indicate what we're going to say a few seconds prior to saying it, known as “gestural foreshadowing" and is essential for communication. We speak less fluently without them because our thought pattern is not being assisted by our gestures, which help supply the next words.

Memorization Tip - Gesture as you learn to create mental hooks with the material, and then use these hooks to recall information later. Move your hands while practicing a presentation and your brain will link gestures to words and phrases. When it’s time to present, start moving your hands and your memorized speech will come to mind easier.
