Good News: A Person Experiencing Homelessness Can File Tax Return and Get Benefits Such as Stimulus Check or Child Tax Credit for 2020
Don’t you have a permanent address? No worries, you can still claim for the Recovery Rebate Credit or get the third stimulus check by filing a 2020 tax return. The Internal Revenue Service allows tax filers who do not have a permanent address, they can use a friend, relatives, or trusted service provider on the returned filed to get benefits including Economic Impact Payments and advance Child Tax Credit.
“A worker experiencing homelessness might also qualify for an Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC),” the agency said. People who qualify and claim the credit could pay no tax or less federal tax depending on the worker’s income, filing status, and other factors.
In addition, people who do not have a bank account can open a low-cost or no-cost bank account through the FDIC website. Filers can use the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation’s tool to locate a nearby FDIC- insured bank.
