What are you doing to get your or your business cited by AI chatbots?

AI is rapidly changing the visibility game. If you haven’t already, you need to tweak your thought leadership strategy to keep up.

Visibility today requires a carefully crafted, comprehensive strategy so that your thought leadership content is cited in traditional search results and by AI powered platforms like ChatGPT, Google’s AI Overviews, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, and Microsoft, and Copilot. How you think, solve problems, and come up with solutions is what will draw key targets to you above other industry leaders in the space. Public relations and thought leadership are like peas in a pod.

Why?

They both solve problems around visibility and credibility.

The magic happens when you combine them because:

🔵Thought leadership gives PR something solid to talk about
🔵Media outlets will be more engaged around a leader who’s sharing expertise vs. promoting a product
🔵PR helps to amplify messages across platforms - op-eds, podcasts, broadcast TV. Eventually a leader’s ideas become associated with that individual
🔵You have the opportunity to develop relationships with journalists and the media with substantive content

Are you showcasing your wisdom in your thought leadership?

Thought leadership is more than just content. It’s a branding outcome.

You may possess the knowledge you need to develop thought leadership but do you have what it takes to communicate it effectively?

True thought leaders have earned their place in business and mastered translating that expertise into palpable authority. This, however, is more complex than constructing a content plan.

❓Are you willing to stand behind what you publish?
❓Are you willing to risk exposing your ideas, judgment?

The answers to these questions will inform your ability to come across credibly and with authenticity.

AI is changing the game when it comes to search as more and more people turn to Google AI overviews and ChatGPT for the information they are seeking. So how do you get your brand to show up where your audience is looking?

According to my recent podcast guest, Travis Tallent, by taking an audience first marketing approach - understanding your audience and how they are using your products, and then developing strategies to ultimately meet them where they're at.

“If you can answer who the audience is, how to reach them, and what they want and then execute at scale, then you win,” says Travis.

Last month, life got in the way, so I gave myself a pass at producing my own thought leadership content. It wasn’t an easy decision but I felt I had no choice at the time.

In hindsight, this wasn’t the best decision. Why? Because in actuality, I could have knocked it out.

Being consistent is key for visibility and SEO, so I’m back on track this month!

With the abundance of thought leadership content being shared online, the only way you can stand out is if your perspectives are truly original.

Here are 4 questions to ask yourself about your thought leadership content:

⭐Am I regurgitating ideas I read elsewhere?
⭐Is my content simply informing people but not inspiring them to think and take action?
⭐Does my content spark tension? Does it invite scrutiny? Alignment?
⭐Does my content present a perspective that not everyone will agree with?

How does your thought leadership content hold up?
