More Than Words Marketing

More Than Words Marketing Anyone can throw up a block of copy (and sadly, many do), but does that copy speak clearly to your audience’s pain points? I got you! That’s me.

I help individuals and institutions to create your own Personality Brand, putting more of yourself into your message in order to creatie stronger connections with your audience and helping you attract the right clients and repel the wrong ones. Does it make them nod their head as they read it and feel like you totally get them? And most importantly, does it make them want to take action? Whether y

ou’re a design agency, a mission-driven organization, a solopreneur or a small business, you’re probably searching for an ongoing partner to be your go-to copywriter to craft strategy and content. Design Agency - I act as your in-house writer:
• Collaborate with your designers
• Communicate with and present to clients
• Keep in constant touch with your PM/Account team
• Help move the project forward
• Integrate into your systems (Slack, Email, Basecamp, Dropbox, etc.). In other words, it’s like I’m sitting next to you, even though I’m not (but I can come in for meetings if you’re local — and I’ll even bring donuts). Mission-driven Organization - I’m your go-to content creator:
• Work across departments
• Shift messaging for donors and program participants
• Understand the nuances of charitable giving language
• Print and digital content creation
• Deep understanding of brand voice, mission and history

You have small teams and even smaller budgets. You need someone to do it all and work across departments. Solopreneur/Small Business - Whatever you need, when you need it:
• PPTs and presentations
• Speeches
• Email messaging
• Blogs/Thought leadership
• Social posts/social media management

You’re already pulled in 50 directions. You need to be able to dictate what you need and have it show up in your inbox.

I built a chatbot of myself.

Not because I'm extra (okay, maybe a little), but because as a writer, the last thing I need is AI flattening my voice into corporate beige.

So I made a custom GPT that only answers as me — trained on my background, my tone, what I will and won't talk about. Same questions I ask my clients: What do you want to share? What's off-limits?

Now when I'm pressure-testing a piece of content, I can ask: does this actually sound like me? Is this the Danielle spin? And it will straight-up tell me — this is exactly what you would say — or — I'm not sure this is in your voice.

That's not AI replacing my work. That's AI protecting it.

The technology is only as strong as the identity you put into it. Which means the most important AI skill isn't prompting — it's knowing yourself well enough to train it properly.

Are you using AI as a tool or letting it use you?

🎙️ This was just one of the takes I shared at the HR Brew Summit with the incomparable Kate Noel, Head of People at Morning Brew.

I'm certain that every person reading this has items in their closet that:
• Don't fit
• Aren't current
• Are no longer your style
• You've forgotten about
• You want to forget about

Now, let's look at your resume, experience section on LinkedIn or bio.

How much of that no longer fits you?

How much is no longer in style (or in demand)?

How much isn't relevant to who you are today?

And yet, you're hanging onto it. Why?

Just like you do with your clothes and this notion of "someday," you're hanging onto roles you've had, tasks you've done and projects you've completed as if they'll one day be in demand. As if you'll actually put them on (you won't and you don't want to).

Recently I told someone I was a closet declutterer but for your professional CV. I help you part with the roles and tasks you no longer want to talk about and instead focus on what you actually want to show off. I can also clean out your closet (just ask my friends!).

If you're ready to say goodbye to roles, tasks, industries or projects that no longer serve you, let's chat.

A piece I was quoted in last year resurfaced for me this week — and the advice still holds.

It was about navigating unemployment, with input from career coaches, financial experts, and resume strategists. It's very much worth a read if you're in transition.

But I also want to talk to the people who aren't.

Because the LinkedIn advice I shared in that piece? It applies whether you're job hunting or not:
→ Your headshot isn't a formality. Dress like the version of you that gets hired. Smile. Clean background. Done.
→ You get 220 characters in your title. Most people use 40. Pack it with keywords, expertise, and one human detail that makes someone want to talk to you.
→ Your "About" section is your narrative, not your résumé. If it could belong to anyone else in your field, rewrite it.
→ And if you are between roles: "Open to Work" isn't a scarlet letter. Be gracious about where you've been, specific about where you're going. People want to help — make it easy.

The professionals who land the next role, the speaking gig, the inbound client — they didn't scramble to fix their profile when they needed it. They built it when they didn't. It's never too late to get yours ready.

Every morning I drive the same route to the gym. I've been driving this same route for almost 3 years now, so I know what to expect. I know mostly how long it will take, where the traffic might be and where the speed cameras are (lesson learned!).

As part of this journey there's a large hill. The kind you can't see past and don't know what's at the bottom, unless you've driven it before. I know that no matter the time of day or the speed I go, the traffic light at the bottom of the hill will always be red. Always.

I know that racing over the hill just means having to brake hard as you come over the top. Which is why I don't fly over the hill. I actually drive fairly slowly because I know it won't matter. I know what's coming. I know a stop is inevitable.

But every day there are cars going around me or whizzing past, because they don't know. They're uninformed. (for those who know me, you know that going slow is NEVER my M.O. so I must truly know what I'm talking about here!)

And inevitably I see them at the bottom. Usually right in front or next to me, because, red light.

They're rushing because they're anxious to get where they're going: work, school, the gym, home, etc. This is what we do when we don't know what's ahead or we just want to hurry things along.

But when you have experience, when you've literally been there and done that, you know better.

You know that you need to pace yourself. That racing won't make a damn bit of difference. You've learned the hard way, through experience. Through repetition. You've mastered this and now you can show others. You're now the expert because you took your time and put in your miles (or reps).

Expertise isn't rushing. It's pacing, it's learning, it's absorbing. And then showing others how to do the same. How to learn from you and your experience.

When I coach or work with clients, I'm never racing over the hill. I'm helping you to understand that you don't have to either. That taking your time and learning what awaits you is how you learn who you are and how you want to show up. That building your Personality Brand isn't a race. It's just climbing the hill and feeling confident that you know what's on the other side.

But, if you're the type to need a quick win I've got a few options to help you jumpstart your Personality Brand. We can always take things slowly after...https://www.morethanwordscopy.com/resources

My HR hot take: Your personality is your competitive advantage.

That was just one of the questions HR Brew's Kate Noel asked me for her People Person podcast. I was so thrilled to be asked to attend HR Brew's Talent 2030 Collective Conference and even more thrilled to sit down with Kate to dish on what I'm seeing in the market around hiring, jobs, search and more.

And even though she wanted to steal my title (which I gladly offered for a price — we're in negotiations), we managed to still have a jam-packed conversation about burnout, AI, employee advocacy and more (stay tuned for how to tune in).

So why is this my hot take? Because in a world where AI is making every resume the same, all we have is what makes us uniquely different: our personality. And understanding how to showcase and leverage what you bring to the table is how you can advocate for yourself and advance.

The whole conference was a push and pull between AI and humanity and how both can work together and coexist in organizations. But with a lot of guardrails and a lot of work to be done to ensure that people remain at the forefront.

And of course the Eras Tour blouse made another appearance and garnered tons of compliments from fellow attendees. I'm starting to worry I can never wear anything else.

Much more to come on conference takeaways in my next post. Stay tuned.

Did you know there are three positioning traps that corporate professionals fall into?

I delved into all three during my breakout sessions last weekend at the Women's Center Leadership Conference.

They are:
Title-Led: Your headline or how you introduce yourself is simply your job title and company.

Task-led: Your intro is a list of things you do, or that your job description says you do. But they just scratch the surface and don't really say anything specific.

Humble-Led: You feel the need to qualify or minimize everything you do just in case it comes off as braggy or that (god forbid) you did this all on your own.

Title-led for an early career professional is fine. But not surprisingly most people mid career or higher identify with task-led or humbled-led. And both are hurting you.

One makes you a doer or order taker and the other doesn't showcase your value or expertise. Whether you're looking for a new role, a promotion or just want to be more visible inside your organization (or outside of it), you need to break free of these traps.

My Maven course will help you Reposition Yourself for the Career You Actually Want.

It's 4 live sessions, office hours and hands on work and feedback to get your positioning aligned with what you ACTUALLY do and who you ACTUALLY are.

We kick off next week and this link gives you 20% off. Get all the details including the full syllabus and register today: https://maven.com/more-than-words-marketing/reposition-yourself-for-the-career-you-actually-want?promoCode=career

Adapt. Rise. Thrive.

That was the theme of the 40th Annual Women's Leadership Conference held by the Women's Center this past weekend.

I'll be sharing more on this, but for now let me just say I was truly blown away by this conference. Incredible speakers like Ann Compton, former White House Chief Correspondent who regaled with stories of her time under George W. Bush; and Jessica Buchanan who shared her harrowing tale of being kidnapped by Somali Pirates.

There was a sexual assault survivor who bravely spoke up and shared how her therapist from the Women's Center truly saved her life.

And so much more.

Amongst all this, I was honored to be asked to run two back-to-back breakout sessions on How to Use Your Personality Brand to Drive Authority, Advocacy, and Advancement.

The energy in both packed sessions was amazing and I was reminded why I do this. Not only were these women engaged, they were interested and willing to do the work. I even had people come up after to take selfies! And my "Eras tour blouse" was the biggest hit. Clearly my 1989 reference was onto something.

All day long people were coming up to me to thank me and share how much they loved my sessions (even people who didn't attend were telling me they heard about my sessions!). It was humbling and validating.

More to come when I get the professional photos, but here's a sneak peak.

Thank you to Katy Breuer and the entire team at the Women's Center for the work they do and for including me in this amazingly special day.

You're in your "actually doing it" era.

Not your "I'll update my LinkedIn About section eventually" era.

Not your "I've been meaning to get to that" era.

Definitely not your "it's fine, nobody reads those anyway" era.

The one where you stop letting a blank page and a busy calendar be the reason your About section is still empty or has the summary from your resume.

Here's what I built for you:
The LinkedIn About Section Framework (Personality Edition) — a done-for-you service that gets your About section written, revised, and wrapped up in a week.

No calls. No waiting for an opening on my calendar.

No staring at a blank page.

You fill out a guided framework I created specifically for this. It's full of prompts, examples, and multiple-choice options so the thinking part is actually manageable.

Send it back. Within 72 hours, I return a fully written About section — in your voice, for the people you actually want to reach.

One round of revisions and you're done.

The version of you that's been putting this off? Out of excuses.

I wish this was an April Fool's post. But sadly you are the fool if you don't use LinkedIn to showcase who you really are and what you bring to the table professionally.

I've reviewed thousands of LinkedIn profiles.

Most of them are incomplete.

Not because the person behind them lacks experience — but because they treated LinkedIn like a formality and moved on.

A headline copied from their job description.

An About section that stops at "results-driven professional."

Accomplishments buried in bullet points nobody reads.

The profile exists. It just doesn't say anything.

And here's what I know after doing this work for almost a decade: if you can't tell your story on the page, you can't tell it in a room. Or in an interview. Or in the conversation that could change everything.

The profile isn't the problem. It's the symptom.

Your LinkedIn should tee you up. It should set expectations, tell your story, and get people excited to meet you — so that when you show up on the Zoom or walk into the room, they already know who you are. The person on the page and the person in front of them should be the same.

Most profiles don't do that. They leave people guessing.

On April 9th I'm hosting another free 30-minute lightning lesson on why your professional brand might be stuck — and what to do about it. If you missed the first one, I'd love to see you there!
