As a manager, your goal might be to create the highest-performing team in the company, the team that other teams envy and look up to.

But, encouraging and supporting your team on their path to peak performance does not happen over night.

In fact, this is an an ongoing journey for you as a manager.

Here are a few strategies for building a high-performing team:

1. Create a shared sense of purpose for the team to rally around
2. Invest in employee development
3. Celebrate success together and recognize contributions

Are you feeling overwhelmed with the workload on your plate?

Maybe it's time to delegate some of that work to your colleagues of direct reports. Not only will this free up your time for strategic initiatives, but, it could also provide some interesting and new work for those you manage or work with.

Do you feel like you have a good work-life balance?

If you answered "who does?" I encourage you to think about ways you can incorporate more work-life balance into your life without feeling unproductive or guilty for not working those long hours.

One thing I've, personally, come to terms with is that work-life balance is a cycle, not a clearly defined achievement or perfect mindset that fits everyone.

Harvard Business Review explains that the work-life balance cycle includes 5 stages:

1. Pause and denormalize: in a nutshell, this stage asks for reflection -- what is stressing you out? How is this affecting your job or you personally?

2. Pay attention to your emotions

3. Reprioritize

4. Consider your alternatives

5. Implement changes

(Optional 6th step: Repeat ๐Ÿ”„)

Do you have any other advice for those looking to improve work-life balance? Drop your recommendations in the comments โฌ‡๏ธ

If you'd like to read more about this cycle from HBR, here's a link to the article: https://hbr.org/2021/01/work-life-balance-is-a-cycle-not-an-achievement

Relationships at work are... complex.

Think about it, we spend 40 hours, week in and week out, with our coworkers. That's a lot of time!

With all that quality time spent at work, difficult relationships are inevitable.

Here are some tips on how to successfully manage difficult relationships at work:

โœ… Know what frustrates you and pushes you buttons (and communicate that!) Does missing a deadline get under your skin? Do you dislike when people IM you while you are on a call or in a meeting? Let your coworkers know.

โœ… Learn to voice your thoughts and feelings. Try using the imago theory which essentially puts your feelings and experiences into "I" statements instead of pointing the fingers at others. People are more likely to empathize with you when using this approach.

โœ… Talk to your manager. If all else fails, lean on your manager for their assistance in resolving a conflict or simply giving you advice.

Managing relationships at work is important and it's inevitable you will face difficult interactions every now and then. How have you dealt with difficult relationships at work? Let me know in the comments โฌ‡๏ธ

We are currently experiencing The Great Resignation.

What is that?

The Great Resignation, also known as the Big Quit, is the ongoing trend of employees voluntarily leaving their jobs, from spring 2021 to the present, largely in the United States.

If you are someone who has just quit your job or you are considering quitting your job, there are some things you can reflect on as you decide on where to go next in your professional career. Think about these points:

- What are your personal values and mission? Knowing this can help you determine if your next job or opportunity is a good fit.

- Identify people, organizations and leaders that can add value to you professionally and connect with them.

- Be strategic in your job search. You are also interviewing them, as much as they are interviewing you.

Have you experienced The Great Resignation in your organization OR have you recently resigned from a position?

Oh, the dreaded, "This is too expensive, can you give me a discount?" ๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ Who else has experienced this questions (or s...

Oh, the dreaded, "This is too expensive, can you give me a discount?"

๐Ÿ™‹โ€โ™‚๏ธ Who else has experienced this questions (or something very similar)?

Knowing your worth is half the battle, but how do you communicate it to clients or customers who underestimate your value and service?

Here are a few things you can say to clients and customers who think your service is too expensive:

1. Acknowledge where your client is coming from and understand their situation. Having empathy will help you navigate this conversation.

2. Nail down the main concern.

3. Communicate that you understand their concern (even repeat that concern back to them: practice active listening).

4. Provide a solution that addresses their concern but still honors your value. Perhaps you cut back on the hours offered, or maybe instead of offering five design options, you only over three.

Remember, your work and effort is WORTH it. Try out these tips and let me know how it works for you!

Are there any other strategies that have worked for you in these situations? Let me know in the comments โฌ‡๏ธ

Kaylinn felt a lot of pressure as a leader to always have the right answer.

We spent a lot of time breaking down that misconception. Kaylinn was able to realize that leadership is not about having the right answer or telling people what to do, but it's about providing guidance and support for a team.

What's more, Kaylinn now takes the much needed time to think through decisions instead of rushing to answers. Now, she provides better answers and direction for her team, with confidence.
