Recently wrapped an incredible brand strategy and brand development project for Market Enginuity, the leader in sponsorship sales for public media stations across the U.S. The organization enables NPR and PBS stations nationwide to flourish by driving revenue. When they decided to expand into the world of podcasting, they called 🏴 https://www.linkedin.com/company/motto/ to help build their next innovation: Soundrise.

THE PROBLEM
The podcast world is dense and competitive. Networks and platforms are consolidating. Bigger companies are buying up podcasts in droves. They are all saying the same thing: “Plug your podcast into our massive machine platforms and we’ll make you successful!”

Yes, they can grow audiences and bring in revenue. But, this comes at a price: independent creators sign over creative control for the privilege of having their voices heard at scale.

Motto worked closely with Executive leadership to create what is now Soundrise. Soundrise was designed to help diverse, unfettered genius—explore out loud. Soundrise protects independent podcast content creators by respecting their creativity and growing their shows to ensure long term success.

IDEA WORTH RALLYING AROUND™
“Independent Together” became our Idea Worth Rallying Around™. It champions creative energy, unites under a common cause, and celebrates alliances.

THE NAME
We named it Soundrise which is inspired by the idea of igniting change, fueling success, and championing podcast creators. A powerful surge. Play on ‘sunrise’, meaning new dawn. It also focuses on the idea of improvement and a rise in quality, rise in awareness, and rise in funding.

CULTURE WORK
Motto immersed ourselves in the leadership, culture, brand, and product to capture the spirit of the company. Then we got to work on clarifying the brand, aligning culture to a brand motto, and turning that into a visually-rich identity that connected who they are to the outward-facing brand.

It’s no coincidence that our content has taken a deep dive into leadership recently.

It’s because leaders are the crux of a strong and vibrant brand. They set the vision for the brand in turn injecting life and purpose into the organization.

In our experience at , without commitment, vision and purpose from the top, the brand has a harder time thriving. Eventually, the brand becomes diluted because vision, strategy, culture, and brand, all work together as one.

It’s because leaders are the crux of a strong and vibrant brand. They set the vision for the brand in turn injecting life and purpose in the brand and visual assets.

Without the vision and purpose from the top level, the external will have nothing to support it and thus will not resonate emotionally with the target audience.

is an AI platform that guides ambitious yet underserved women, people of color, LGBTQ+ entrepreneurs, military-affiliated business owners, and entrepreneurs with disabilities to funding, mentorship, and success.⠀

When Hello Alice came to Motto, they were using a figure of the human character of "Alice" in their brand. Alice was used to humanize users' interactions with the company's platform. She served as a personal assistant to help guide clients throughout the Hello Alice experience.⠀

Motto took this concept and built a strategy around the idea. We flipped the script, seeing that the entrepreneurs using the company's platform were the actual Alices. They were the adventurers going down the rabbit hole and into the wonderland of entrepreneurship. What users needed was a wayfinder to accompany them on their journey. Enter The Rabbit 🐇~ an engaging, dynamic character that kept entrepreneurs company and led them forward through the Hello Alice platform with ease. ⠀

From this lightbulb-moment idea💡, we wove the rabbit symbol into the brand story, message, and visual brand system. Today, the women-led company of Hello Alice moves confidently through its own adventure, igniting entrepreneurial success among underserved business owners in the new majority!⠀
