I just want to remind everyone that while it looks like Joe Biden will likely win the presidency, the next 4 years will require just as much, if not more activation from the public to fight for our rights—the right to live a dignified life with healthcare that doesn’t hinge on having a full-time job, one where our so-called leaders acknowledge systemic racism, and put in place reparations of all kinds to begin to ameliorate the inequalities that have resulted from it, as well as holding police publicly a.c.o.u.n.ta.b.l.e f.o.r t.h.e.i.r a.b.u.s.e of people and power, because nobody should be above the law, one where the majority of people in this country’s calls to see meaningful and urgent action toward halting climate change should be a.d.d.r.e.s.s.e.d because it’s gonna be a lot more expensive for all if we keep ignoring how bad it’s gonna be, not only for our ecosystems, but for vulnerable populations who stand to suffer the most from the fallout. We need activism these next 4 years to put power in the hands of t.h.e p.e.o.p.l.e who represent the m.a.j.o.r.i.t.y of this c.o.u.n.t.r.y instead of corporations who claim to provide good jobs and support the working class. They absolutely do not support the working class, their prerogative is to extract more wealth from vulnerable people, while stripping them of benefits (take a look at how drivers are being disempowered by Uber and Lyft, or the business model of mechanizing Amazon workers by Jeff Bezos as two examples that should be alarming us each and every day). It does not pay corporations to support their workers, it pays to e.x.p.l.o.i.t them. We need for the next four years to fight hard for our collective wellbeing, because the powers that be and Joe Biden alone sure as sugar will not, without our efforts. We need to tap into the power of cooperation, interdependence, mutual aid, civic engagement, diversity, collaboration, persistence, art, neighbors, friends, and family to get us to the next goal, which is representation and an economy that supports our long term wellbeing. This isn’t time to sigh relief, it’s time to roll up our sleeves and make concrete plans. Our future depends on us and us alone.
