French Musical Cat Automaton To Highlight Kensington Estate Sale

CLINTONDALE, N.Y. — Kensington Estate Auctions’ Monday, May 20, online auc- tion will be highlighted by a Nineteenth Century French musical cat automaton. With glass eyes and musically inclined, these cats move and sing after the manual crank has been turned. In addition, the online auction will include photography, Nineteenth- Twenty-First Century art (paintings and illustrations), bronze and stone sculptures, antiquarian books, stamped correspondence from the 1800s, wood carvings, Native Ameri- can, Chinese and Japanese ethnography, urban graffiti tagged art, animation cells, jewelry, vintage engineering instruments and much more.
International photography is highlighted by a unique collec- tion of images from Doug Menuez. In 1985, Steve Jobs granted Menuez unprecedent- ed access to document innova- tors of the digital revolution
and Silicon Valley. An array of original silver gelatin photos, proofs/contact sheets and books underscore this catego- ry. Other noteworthy photog- raphers include Gordon Smith (several), Phillip Porcella (“Dancer In Flight”), Matt Her- ron (“March From Selma To Montgomery,” 1965), Michael Grecco (Johnny Cash), Ken Heyman (Nigeria), Ozier Muhammed (“Sisters Nomad Camp”) and others. In addition are the Nineteenth Century British colonial albumens, albumens of the Pacific North- west and hand-colored Japa- nese albumens. Also represent- ed are signed images of the British royal family.

ver), two Emeralite banker’s desk lamps, hollow carved hissing canada goose decoy, Archimede Seguso “Opalino" murano fish, circa 1955, Moor- croft flambe Wisteria vase, 1920s Egyptian revival ink- well, baroque terracotta bas relief plaque of the Holy Fami- ly, Zacharia Njobo Shona carved stone sculpture, sulfide marble American eagle and others. Japanese objets d’art include Nineteenth Century Imari porcelain jars, Nine- teenth Century Meiji-era painted porcelain plates, antique embroidered beaded metallic dragon textile and Gofun Meiji period Hina emperor and empress dolls. In addition are Chinese objets d’art, Imari porcelain jars, famille rose porcelain flask and jar and a pair of giltwood temple foo dog carvings. Of special note is the pair of antique carved Indian Hindu temple goddesses.

Published illustra- tions of interest are from Mario Cooper (1930) and Carl Lund- gren sci-fi cover art painting.
Interesting items fill the books, autograph and stamp category. Published in 2006 is the book Western Legends: Pho- tographs, Ink, Autographs and Memories signed by many notables such as President Jimmy Carter, Mickey Rooney, Eli Wallach, James Arness, Adam West and many others; Durer Albrecht: The Humilia- tion And Exaltation Of Our Redeemer, 1856; Charles Dick- ens, Master Humphrey’s Clock, 1850; and Nineteenth Century
Joseph Haydn, Johannes Brahms and Johann Bach orig- inal music facsimile manu- scripts. An inscribed photo- graph of Shirley Temple, My Fair Lady signed program with signatures from Julie Andrews and Rex Harrison; collection of signed books (nine) signatures from Salman Rushdie, Judy Collins, Joseph Anton, George McGovern, Sam Ervin Jr and others and a collection of stamped correspondence from the 1800s will cross the block.
Items of particular interest are a large antique Steiff mohair bear ride-a-long toy; Nineteenth-Twentieth Centu- ry patinated bronze bird equa- torial sundial; f lying winged Pegasus copper weathervane and an antique iron bank cashier-cage gate.
