Conservation discoveries from the Van Gogh Museum! While living in Brabant, Vincent Van Gogh painted this picture of a cottage. X-rays show that beneath, the first image on the support was a flock of sheep. It is not uncommon to find two images on a canvas, artists can recycle canvasses when they have new ideas and no funds for materials. Artists can also change their minds midstream, and paint new inspiration over old.
