Today, we celebrate Coast Guard Ombudsman Appreciation Day — a day to recognize the dedicated spouses and Auxiliary members who volunteer their time, energy, and compassion in support of our Coast Guard families, the Ombudsman Coordinators across the districts who train and support them, and the unit leadership who value and welcome what the program aims to do.

For 40 years, the Ombudsman Program has stood as a cornerstone of family readiness, ensuring that those who serve are backed by strong, informed, and supported families at home. Mission readiness begins with family readiness, and that success is made possible in large part because of our ombudsman and their coordinators.

This day also provides a chance to reflect on the incredible legacy of Mrs. Wanda Allen. Her vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment helped establish and strengthen the Ombudsman Program into what it is today.

To every Ombudsman — past and present — thank you for being a steady source of guidance, advocacy, and care. Your impact reaches far beyond what is seen, and it makes a lasting difference across the entire Coast Guard community.

Once you know better you can do better.

Military families are continuously and conscientiously doing the best they can with what they know.
Thanks to Five & Thrive and their Resource Hub, families can now filter support/resources by
🔵 Branch,
🔴 Topic,
🔵 State, and
🔴 Military Status
So that service members and their dependents are more informed and in turn can make more informed choices.

No more guessing. No more endless searching. Just relevant, location-specific resources—right where military families need them, wherever they’re stationed.

The Five & Thrive Resource Hub allows military families to filter resources by state, making it easier to find programs, benefits, and support that actually apply where you live.

The past week has been extremely difficult for the Coast Guard community. Most notably, due to the passing of AST2 Tyler Jaggers in his pursuit to save others.

Our community aligns with the Commandant's statement, wholeheartedly, "His family has our deepest condolences and steadfast support, and we continue to honor their privacy during this very difficult time."

As such, in the event you have not already seen these avenues to support AST2 Jaggers family, and feel called to make your condolences known through financial support, I would like to share the following:

🚁 Coast Guard Helicopter Rescue Swimmer Association - 'Silver Fins'
Non-Designated General Donation:
"This donation will be used as designated by the donor. Funds donated in memory of a recent loss will be directed in full support to the family. Otherwise, these funds will be used in general support of our three mission sets, as described on our website."

⚓️ Coast Guard Foundation Tragedy Assistance Support
"The Foundation provided immediate support to Air Station Astoria and is prepared to continue offering assistance to his family and shipmates in the days and weeks ahead through our tragedy assistance program. The program delivers financial support to families and Coast Guard shipmates when a service member is injured, critically ill, or loses their life..."

"As uncertainty continues around pay during the partial government shutdown, the purpose behind this ride feels even more urgent. CGMA ensures Coast Guard members and their families are never navigating hardship alone. It is the only nonprofit dedicated to supporting the Coast Guard’s total workforce: Active Duty, Reserve, Civilian Employees, Auxiliarists, and their families.

If you’d like to wish him a happy birthday, consider supporting the cause he’s riding for: https://bit.ly/Riding-4-CGMA.

Helping our own. Always Ready. That's the Power of Us."

For Coasties by Coasties Coast Guard Mutual Assistance is there when you need them.

U.S. Coast Guard Arctic, Record snow. Dangerous conditions. Real costs for Coast Guard families. That’s why Coast Guard Mutual Assistance is stepping in.

This winter, Alaska has been hit with record-breaking snow and extreme cold. For Coast Guard families, that’s meant unsafe rooftops, damaged vehicles, structural failures, and unexpected expenses just to keep their homes safe.

We’re making Disaster Assistance grants available to members, including active duty, reserve, civilian, spouses, retirees, and auxiliarists, in impacted areas. CGMA is offering a $1,000 grant for professional rooftop snow removal, helping reduce risk and offset costs that can range from $500–$1,500.

As one USCG Civilian Employee in Juneau shared:

“We paid for professional rooftop snow removal out of pocket because it was not safe to attempt it ourselves. Knowing CGMA is reimbursing us has been an incredible relief.”

If you or your family have been impacted, help is available.

From
