Today, we celebrate Coast Guard Ombudsman Appreciation Day — a day to recognize the dedicated spouses and Auxiliary members who volunteer their time, energy, and compassion in support of our Coast Guard families, the Ombudsman Coordinators across the districts who train and support them, and the unit leadership who value and welcome what the program aims to do.
For 40 years, the Ombudsman Program has stood as a cornerstone of family readiness, ensuring that those who serve are backed by strong, informed, and supported families at home. Mission readiness begins with family readiness, and that success is made possible in large part because of our ombudsman and their coordinators.
This day also provides a chance to reflect on the incredible legacy of Mrs. Wanda Allen. Her vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment helped establish and strengthen the Ombudsman Program into what it is today.
To every Ombudsman — past and present — thank you for being a steady source of guidance, advocacy, and care. Your impact reaches far beyond what is seen, and it makes a lasting difference across the entire Coast Guard community.
