Self-awareness is a superpower 🦹🏻‍♀️

Therapy work is all about finding your inner strength that does not depend on outside events and opinions of others.

You have it. But sometimes we need to do some work to find it.

Practicing self-awareness is where you start. Little by little.

What makes you happy, what triggers you, what brings you joy, what makes you angry...

Remember - it’s a process. Nobody is 100% self aware.

Take a deep breath, and then ask yourself:
• what is actually happening right now, and what story I am telling myself around it?
• do I have evidence to support that story?
• What evidence do I have against it?
• can that story be different? How?
• what action can I take now that I am more aware of the situation?
• how does it make me feel?

As I was pondering the ever-present question of what to do with my life while sipping on my tea and staring into space, I realized that I can’t solve this puzzle in a vacuum.

We thrive when we connect. Reaching out, asking questions, learning new things, meeting new people - it makes us feel good, it creates energy, it helps us find solutions, or teaches us about the world and ourselves.

As someone who thinks that if she didn’t do it all by herself then she didn’t do it, it can be hard for me to initiate connection. But building a community is key to wellbeing, and I’ll do myself a favor to remember that.

I don’t look for happiness anymore⁠

I used to think that I'll be happy when this or that happens, only to find out it was not it. So I don't chase it anymore. ⁠

What I do is I look for joy. Pure simple joy in the moment. ⁠

It’s everywhere. In soaking up the sun while I sit on the bench at the dog park and wait for Inigo to get some running in; in getting a delicious snack; in laughing at my husband’s silly jokes... and also in finding out how freezing the ocean water is. Yes, there is joy in that, too. ⁠

These little moments add up, and they make me feel great, but also help me get through the hard days. ⁠

Joy is always in the moment. I don’t have to chase it, and I don’t have to wait for it to come. ⁠⁠⁠⁠
