I think about this a lot in the trades.
Where will the industry be in 10 years? Will labor shortages get worse? Will technology change how we operate? Will customers continue to pay for quality service?
Everyone has a prediction.
✔️You can't predict everything.
✔️Focus on what you can control.
✔️Build a business that can handle surprises.
✔️Don't confuse confidence with certainty.
I checked it out and this quote is often associated with economist Edgar Fiedler and the world of economic forecasting. Its message isn't that forecasting is useless. It's that people who rely too heavily on predictions eventually pay the price.
I'd say the companies that will survive aren't necessarily the ones that predict the future correctly. They're the ones that build strong teams, take care of customers, manage their numbers, and stay adaptable when the future doesn't look the way they expected.
And it will all come down to the leaders put in place at these companies. If there is not a strong front on what winning and success is, one person can ultimately set you back years.
