Help us finish up our beautiful natural playground!!! 🙏🧡💚

Shandaken Parks and Recreation - 🌳🙌 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! 🙌🌳

We're making great progress on the Glenbrook Park Playground, and we'd love your help at our next volunteer day!

📅 Saturday, July 25
🕘 9:00 AM – approximately 1:00 PM

With enough volunteers, we hope to wrap up a big portion of the remaining work in just a half day!

We'll be:
🏗️ Anchoring two pergolas (especially looking for anyone with concrete anchoring or construction experience!)
💪 Helping lift and position the pergolas
🌱 Installing landscape fabric on the berms
🌿 Light weeding and transplanting creeping thyme
💧 Setting up irrigation
🌼 Seeding wildflowers (pending confirmation)
🧹 General site cleanup

If you have them, please bring:
🛠️ Wheelbarrows • Shovels • Work Gloves • Garden Rakes • Utility Knife/Scissors

Whether you're a contractor, gardener, or just someone who wants to give back to the community, there's a job for everyone!

Celebrating Juneteenth at the Pine Street African Burial Ground with the community. What an incredible day, many tears were shed. The exhumated remains were buried along a beautiful ceremony. We reconnected with the Youth Design Team 💚 Kingston YMCA Farm Project 🙏. So many moving words. Then. the unveiling of the monument - the stone, impala, comes from South Africa. We have been working with Harambee 🧡 for quite some time to finally see the monument offered to the ancestors and the community.

Future Fruits - MURRAY ROUND - Food Forest
Design/Build 2025-2026

Super proud of ALL people involved with this long term vision project, to increase food security by installing Edible plantings instead of maintenance heavy grassy hills.

We all did such astounding work, by coming together and putting our brains and muscles into a landscape for the empowerment of the future generations. Much more to come from here on out!!

Big thanks to ALL involved! Especially (but not limited to):
• the City of Kingston
• Kingston Common Future Grant with Good Work Institute
• Kingston Land Trust with Tom and Greg
• Design team KaN Landscape Design with Karine and Nadej
• Community Stewards: Sacred land and Danielle and Avi
• Brent from Kingston city tree management (tree purchases)
• Lots of Volunteers, such as Chris, James, Kon, Stephanie, ALL the passing people that got to learn of what we are installing, and the 3 little NYC visitoring kids whom I'll call KJJ (they named the plants they planted after themselves)
• Nurseries and Landscaping Companies such as: Catskill Native Nursery, Adam's Nursery, Future Fruits / Sacred Land Nursery, Denters Sand & Gravel, Field & Forest for stone delivery.

- Our community Park is growing... We hope to see you!

Join the City of Kingston's Urban Forester for an informative tour about the native trees and perennials planted in Kingston’s new Post Office Park!

Attendees will learn about species, historical tree facts, and the benefits trees provide to pollinators, birds, and our community.

Free Spotted Lanternfly traps will be available.

The 90-minute tour will be followed with an optional 30-minute volunteer blitz to install new tree self-watering mats!

Gardening gloves will be available for up to 20 volunteers to install water bags or bring your own. w

Midtown! The county needs our input on the new Midtown Linear Park design. The Project Design team with developed a “preferred design” based on YOUR previous feedback! Just a few days ago, thanks to funding from .common.futures 🧡 we started to depave!!! To reclaim space for a community food forest at Rondout Garden.
should be recognized as a collective healing process to address climate anxiety 💚

Share Your Thoughts on the Preferred Design for the Midtown Linear Park — Survey Closes Soon!

Over the past several months, hundreds of community members have shared ideas, priorities, and creative thinking that have guided the design process. Building on everything we heard, the Project Design Team has developed a Preferred Design that brings together the most supported elements into one cohesive vision for the new Community Space.

While the design reflects the community’s goals and priorities, it remains conceptual — and we’d like your input one more time before moving forward.

Your feedback is essential. It only takes a few minutes to complete the survey.

View the design boards and share your thoughts through a short online survey. Every response helps refine the final layout, programming, and overall experience of the new park.
