X API compliance has changed.

As of March 31, 2026, social media API providers can’t use one shared set of X Developer credentials on behalf of all customers anymore.

The compliant model is now Bring Your Own App: each customer creates their own X Developer account, registers their own X app, and connects those credentials to the API they’re using.

That sounds like a small backend detail, but it changes a lot:

✅ Your X relationship is direct.
✅ Your app name appears on the OAuth screen.
✅ Your credentials stay tied to your own X Developer account.
✅ And your provider needs to be clear about how those credentials are handled.

If your app pulls Facebook or Instagram analytics, this update affects you 👇

Meta is deprecating several familiar metrics, including Post/Page Reach, Video Impressions, and Story Impressions. These metrics have already been phased out of most Insights tools, and the API is one of the last places they’re still available.

What replaces them?

👉 reach → viewer-based metrics (e.g., media_viewers)
👉 impressions → views (e.g., media_views)

Meta is moving reporting toward view-based metrics, so you may notice your numbers change. This does not necessarily mean performance dropped. The metrics are simply being calculated differently.

What to do before June 2026:

1️⃣ Audit any API calls referencing reach or impressions

2️⃣ Migrate to view-based fields like media_views and media_viewers

3️⃣ Upgrade from Graph API v19 (sunsets May 21, 2026) and v20 (sunsets September 24, 2026)

After June 2026, these deprecated fields will stop returning new data.
