It is an unfortunate fact that Americans are targeted for crimes when traveling overseas more than any other group. One of the reasons is that much of the world sees Americans as being wealthy. Another reason is that the bad guys know that even if an arrest is made, in many cases an American victim will not remain in the country to prosecute.
Learn effective and simple measures you can take to avoid being a victim of crime and remain safe when traveling overseas for pleasure, business or school.

The Center Moriches Public Library is sponsoring the FREE program "Prepared...Not Paranoid: How to Avoid Being a Victim of Violent Crime" on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 6:00pm.

The simple truth, regardless of the rhetoric you may hear, is that violent crime has increased on Long Island over the past five years.
"PREPARED...NOT PARANOID: How to Avoid Being a Victim of Violent Crime" covers proven methods that drastically reduce the chances of a person becoming a victim of violent crime. These methods include Employing Situational Awareness, Reducing Your Target Victim Profile, Knowing How to Use Threat Recognition, and Preparation & Readiness. Once again we are mourning the deaths of innocent children and adults slaughtered by an active shooter. The madness continues.
HOWEVER...Metro Nashville Police could not have done their job better. Their fast response, immediate breach, professional tactics, and good aim took down the shooter before any more innocents could be murdered. This was an example of how law enforcement should respond. Take note, Uvalde and elsewhere. Metro Nashville did it right.
