The Center Moriches Public Library is sponsoring the FREE program "Prepared...Not Paranoid: How to Avoid Being a Victim of Violent Crime" on Monday, April 10, 2023 at 6:00pm.
The simple truth, regardless of the rhetoric you may hear, is that violent crime has increased on Long Island over the past five years.
"PREPARED...NOT PARANOID: How to Avoid Being a Victim of Violent Crime" covers proven methods that drastically reduce the chances of a person becoming a victim of violent crime. These methods include Employing Situational Awareness, Reducing Your Target Victim Profile, Knowing How to Use Threat Recognition, and Preparation & Readiness. Law Enforcement professionals all agree that these four methods are key factors in avoiding victimization.
Recent reports by the FBI and the United States Secret Service, which are the result of extensive research, along with studies by eminent sociologists and psychologists like Dr. B. Grayson and Dr. M. Stein, provide insight into how criminals choose their victims...and therefore guidelines as to how one can avoid being targeted.
"Prepared...Not Paranoid," is a valuable and potentially life-saving program that teaches one how to make these easy, but vitally important, safety habits part of your daily life routine in order to avoid becoming a victim.
This program provides information and instruction on proven simple preventative measures one can take to avoid becoming the victim of violent crimes such as robberies, assaults/sexual assaults, muggings, carjacking, and home invasions.
The lecture also provides instruction and demonstrations on how to CORRECTLY respond should you find yourself in these situations.
Hope is not a strategy...Preparedness is.
Admission is free but reservations are recommended in order to secure seating. Contact the library for information.
