🎨AUGUST LÖHR (GERMAN, 1843–1919)✨
Born near Salzburg, Austria, August Löhr studied at the Munich Academy before establishing himself as a landscape painter and panorama artist. In the 1880s, he came to the United States, where he helped establish the American Panorama Company in Milwaukee and worked on monumental panoramic paintings.
Löhr later traveled to Mexico, where his interest in its landscapes and architecture became an important part of his work. A painting of Chapultepec Castle was exhibited at the San Carlos Academy in Mexico City in 1891, and records indicate that Löhr continued living and working in Mexico into the early 20th century.
His work offers a fascinating glimpse into the landscapes of Mexico and the American West during a period of remarkable artistic and cultural change.
