I see a lot of "client gifting" advice online that sounds like this: just send a gift card, or order something branded with your logo, or pick a price point and fill it.

And I want to be honest with you — that advice will cost you more than it saves.

One of my favorite things I've ever helped send wasn't the most expensive gift. Not even close.

A client of mine had just sold her sewing business — the one she'd built with her own hands for years. It was a big moment. A proud moment. And an emotional one.
We wanted to honor that in a way that felt like her.

So we found a pair of vintage scissors, tucked them inside a handmade wooden carved box, and included a note that said: "As you cut ties — literally and figuratively — may these scissors remind you of the detail and care you poured into your work."

I'm going to say this as clearly as I can: that's not always true.
