I agree to a certain extent. The generalization that "people don't grow where they’re judged” is a little tricky.
I’ve been in environments where it wasn’t safe to be wrong, and all it did was sharpen my sense of the kind of leader I wanted to be. That, too, was growth. Not the kind that feels expansive in the moment, but the kind that becomes clear in hindsight—the small, tough lessons that shape your voice and values.
Yes, safety accelerates growth. But sometimes judgment also teaches us what we will no longer accept, and that clarity is its own form of growth.
Individuals flourish in environments free from judgment. They thrive best when they feel secure enough to make mistakes and learn from them. As a leader, it is your responsibility to create such an atmosphere where people can express their ideas and opinions without fear of criticism.
Encourage open communication, support creative experimentation, and embrace failures as essential steps in the journey toward growth. By cultivating this kind of safe space, you create a culture of innovation and development, enabling everyone to reach their full potential.
