Next week, Jonathan and Ryan will be in for .

We are heading there to learn, connect, and share experiences with other professionals working with reality capture, digital twins, and the technologies around them. We are looking forward to hearing how different teams approach their work.

Will you be in Boise? We would love to meet you there!

Next week, Jonathan Donahue will represent OAR at the ABC Construction Project Owners Summit in Dallas.

We’re looking forward to hearing how project owners and contractors are approaching today’s delivery challenges, from early coordination and resource constraints to modular construction and digital delivery.

For OAR, the summit is an opportunity to listen, learn, and exchange perspectives on how better project information can support better decisions throughout design, construction, and handover.

Will you be there September 28–30? Connect with Jonathan or send us a message. We’d be glad to meet in Dallas.

A deviation heatmap can show where installed geometry differs from a model. It cannot determine what that difference means for the project on its own.

A useful construction deviation analysis makes four things clear:

• What field condition was captured
• Which model or dataset served as the reference
• How the datasets were aligned
• Who is responsible for interpreting the result

That context helps turn a dense point cloud into evidence a BIM/VDC manager, contractor, fabricator, or engineer can evaluate.

Our new article explains the full workflow, from 3D Laser Scanning and alignment through comparison, delivery, and professional review.

Accurate existing conditions start with good decisions in the field.

In a dense mechanical room, even a small change in scanner position can improve visibility around piping, equipment, and overhead systems.

Here, James raises the scanner to get a better line of sight and capture areas that would otherwise be harder to see.

It’s a simple adjustment, but these decisions help us build a more complete and reliable record of existing conditions.

Capturing an accurate scan and coordinating the model are only part of the job. The real test is whether that information still works for the client after turnover.

Digital Delivery & Implementation helps bridge that gap: setting up common data environments, developing BIM Ex*****on Plans, structuring closeout packages, building digital twins, and training teams to use the systems and information they receive.

The goal is continuity across the project lifecycle. A scan from Phase 1 can support Phase 2 planning. A coordinated model can remain useful to the facility team years after closeout. Verified project data can continue supporting day-to-day operations instead of becoming another set of files stored away after handover.

Our Digital Delivery & Implementation service page looks at how that approach applies across general contractors, engineering firms, and industrial facilities.

OAR started because industrial projects were being designed and built on conditions that had not been field-verified. LiDAR scanning addressed that gap. Capturing the data was straightforward. Connecting it to the models each discipline was already using was not, and OAR built that connection.

That work is organized into three services: 3D Laser Scanning, BIM Coordination & Virtual Construction, and Digital Delivery & Implementation. OAR stays involved past the scan itself, carrying the data through coordination and into the deliverables the field uses.

The decisions differ by role. A general contractor managing trades across a congested site needs coordination that catches clashes before they reach the field. A mechanical contractor prefabricating equipment needs dimensional accuracy tight enough to fabricate offsite with confidence. A facility owner planning a shutdown window needs existing conditions documented before the window opens, not during it.

The site now reflects how each of these applies: https://oarscanning.com

Some of the most demanding environments our field teams work in are the ones you never get to photograph.

The job is as much about planning as it is about scanning. Coordinating access, working around live systems, capturing everything in a tight window.

Grateful for a crew that sweats the details before anyone sets up a scanner.

Most capital projects at existing facilities hit the same wall. The as-built drawings say one thing. The building says another. A pipe run got relocated during a past renovation and nobody updated the record. The structural steel isn't where the plans say it is.

By the time this shows up, the budget is set and the contractor is on site. Now it's a change order.

We wrote about where this documentation gap actually comes from, what a scan-to-BIM model needs to include to be useful past a single project, and how facility managers use it for maintenance and space planning after the ribbon cutting.

Workflow integration testing in action.

To keep our skills sharp, James, our Director of Field Technology, headed out to Stark Park in Manchester, NH. His goal was to capture the General John Stark statue and test the seamless alignment of drone photogrammetry and terrestrial LiDAR.

We processed the combined dataset and built this visualization using NUBIGON. It was a great exercise to push our workflows, and this model will soon live on our website as an interactive 3D mesh.

Continuous training is how we guarantee precision. We test our limits on our own time so we can always deliver flawless data to every project.
