After confirming the news through text and social media, The Newport Plain Talk is saddened to report the death of Cosby’s own Ward Williams, who died this morning at the age of 29 after a lengthy and grueling battle with cancer.

A proud Cosby alum, Williams was slated to step in as the Eagles’ new head baseball coach for the 2023 season. But the treatments and the toll of his fight prevented him from doing so.

Ward’s brother, Gatlinburg-Pittman football coach Tyler Williams, wrote a fitting synopsis to NPT Sports Editor Jake Nichols just now, and he gave permission to share it here:

“Ward was a coach and worker and an outdoorsman. He never liked to be in the hospital or at home. He's whole now and has a new body. I look forward to seeing him again one day.”
