What a meaningful evening celebrating 50 years of Wood River Health! I had so much fun meeting new people, being with friends, and dancing the night away for a wonderful cause.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and cared for, regardless of where they come from or where they live. Thank you to the Wood River Health team for putting that belief into practice everyday. And thank you to Senator Jack Reed for a wonderful introduction at the event. I look forward to staying connected and exploring ways to work together. Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island

This article highlights an important but underused resource for RI's older adults and families: The Long-Term Care Ombudsman. In my work I have brought concerns forward and encouraged families to connect with the Ombudsman. To date, nearly ALL of the residents and families I work with, don't understand the office's role or they learn about it only after a concern becomes serious. It's time to come together to create awareness, collaborate and help people understand that "the Ombudsman is the eyes, ears and voice for long term-care residents, patients and consumers." It starts with a conversation. I got a phone call yesterday from someone in our community who was unexpectedly told that her mom could no longer stay at an assisted living community. She had a very short time frame to figure out what to do next. There is no blame here. Together we can find a clearer path.
