Gail Lowney Alofsin will talk with her father, Dr. Jeremiah Alofsin, sharing moments that have shaped his life. I’ll have the honor of speaking with Alice Bowman and we'll hear how, even at 90, life continues to present new ways to try new things.

Let's spread the word.

I've come to see the RI State Long Term Care Ombudsman Program as an underutilized resource in assisted living, and long-term care. Yesterday, I attended a public event at the Rhode Island State House that focused on the long-term care landscape and the challenges people are facing. So many good and productive conversations! One thing that stands out is how little people know about the ombudsman and the role they play. They help bridge communication and support residents and families as a resident-driven resource when challenges come up. They are a service and an advocacy layer for all. We need more awareness and conversations like this.

I visit a client often in long-term memory care that tells me we're old friends. In her world, we saw Elvis together, live, in NYC. So on Saturday, with the help of one of the most caring daughters I have ever met, Christine Danford, and my friend and musician, Pete Lankarge, of Caring Transitions of Newport, RI, we brought a set of live Elvis and Johnny Cash themed music to some of our local memory Care neighbors here in Newport. There was clapping, and even residents I know who are non-verbal, sang every word. Grateful to live in a community that shows up with heart and a shared responsibility to help us all feel seen.
