The BOR is not an E&O issue...
Despite what senior producers will tell you...👴🏼

The incumbent stays on the policy for the rest of the term....

The BOR applies to the renewal negotiation...💰

And carriers require you to resubmit...

Gone are the days of carriers just transferring the policies to your agency...

That's what used to happen...

I think I could play in the World Cup...⚽
^^right after I scored a goal on my 4-year-old...

My daughter and I were playing soccer at my parents...

☝🏼However...

Since I am 32 years older than her...

I had a false sense of how good I was at the sport...🤷🏼‍♂️

The reality is I would get dominated by anyone who is remotely good at soccer...

That little saying cost me $4.8M in premium in 15 days... 🤦🏼‍♂️

I was about six months into the industry...

Joined a new firm... 🕴🏼

We were one of four brokers with a new landscape market...

I sold the sh*t out of it on the phone...☎️

We have a hot market... only one of 4 brokers in the state...

We will be 40% less... 💰

The prospects loved it...they were drooling...

I was actively quoting $4.8M in premium... it all renewed between 4/1-4/15...

Out of the entire thing I wrote a $1,000 premium BOP...

It was a little sh*t account... leaf blower, lawn mower, and a trailer...

There was no way I was going to put up a $0...

What happened... 🤔

The market wasn't 40% less...

The incumbent matched pricing...🤬

The last look dominated me...kicked my *ss...

And it almost knocked me out of the industry...

After licking my wounds...I decided to give it one more try...

It was BOR or Bust...🙌🏼🤑

Either I figured that out or I was going to go sell tech...🤦🏼‍♂️

And the rest is history 🙌🏼

Asking to quote is not the same as asking for the business...

"Then I ask for the business"...

Ohhh...so you ask for the BOR?

No... I ask for the commitment to quote... 😔

And then I pre-qualify...and ask if I do X, Y, and Z will they move the business...

If they say yes...

Then I quote...

And how's that working out for you? 🤔

Ehhh not good...most deals die when I ask for the policies and info...

Exactly...bc you never ACTUALLY asked for the business...

Stop asking to quote...❌

Start asking for the BOR... 🙌🏼

That forces the prospect to make a YES or NO decision...

Both are good answers... 🤑💰🤑

Impressed the h*ll out of my father-in-law by asking him to help me change this...😂
Humbling to say the least...

Never learned how to change a tire...

My dad taught me but I just wasn't interested...🤷🏼‍♂️

I'll call AAA...

Well the Sunday after the 4th wasn't the best day for them...

So I waited 3 hours...then I made the call to my father-in-law...

At first I resisted...

Bc I was telling myself false stories about asking for help...

That is somehow made me a failure...😔

Fought through that...made the call...got help...and moved on with my day...

That same attitude held me back early in my career...

Prevented me from hiring outside coaches...❌

Asking for help...

Instead of thinking of it as a positive thing...

I viewed it as a negative...like I was weak...

The truth is...professionals hire outside coaches...🙌🏼

They know it's on them to invest in themselves to get to the next level...🤑💰🤑

The agency isn't going to do it for you...

The industry already teaches a process that fails 75% of producers...🤦🏼‍♂️

And the reality is you are probably getting sh*tty training on that already failing process...

Sooo...we appreciate your hard work...we really do...

And SOB that's it... you know it's over... 🤦🏼‍♂️

They hit you with it...

Our broker matched your pricing... 💰

But we would love to try this again next year...we may be ready then...

All you want to do is say...

F*ck you...the only reason they lowered their price is bc I was in there... 🤬

Instead...you pull it together...

Appreciate the opportunity... and yes, let's talk next year...if you need anything between now and then let me know...

Then your boss tells you... it's part of the game...keep grinding...💪🏼
