📢 Public Notice – Norway-Paris Solid Waste Board Meeting

Norway-Paris Solid Waste will be holding a Board Meeting on Wednesday, June 24th at 11:00 AM at the Transfer Station.

The purpose of this meeting is to meet with a representative from Atlantic Recycling to discuss the condition of the facility's current baler and review options for a replacement baler.

We apologize for the short notice. Due to scheduling constraints, this meeting is being held based on the representative's availability rather than our own schedule. We appreciate your understanding as we work to evaluate important equipment that directly impacts the operation and efficiency of the facility.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

⚠️ PROPANE TANK SAFETY REMINDER ⚠️

Propane tanks of any size are NOT permitted in the hopper.

Improper disposal of propane tanks creates a serious safety hazard for facility employees, equipment, and the public. Even tanks that appear empty may still contain residual gas and pose a fire or explosion risk.

If you have a propane tank to dispose of, please notify one of our attendants upon arrival. Our staff will be happy to guide you to the proper disposal location and explain any applicable procedures.

When in doubt, ask first—don't throw it in the hopper.

Thank you for helping us keep Norway-Paris Solid Waste safe for everyone.

Have you ever wanted to have a say in the future of your community? Now is your chance.

The **Norway-Paris Solid Waste (NPSW)** Board is currently accepting applications from residents of both Norway and Paris to fill board vacancies. Serving on a board or committee is one of the most effective ways to make a meaningful impact in your community while requiring only a minimal time commitment.

Not interested in solid waste? That's okay! We encourage you to check with your local town office to learn about other boards and committees that may have openings. Every community benefits from residents who are willing to get involved.

NOTICE

When the upper gate at Norway-Paris Solid Waste is closed, the facility is closed.

We do not make the decision to close the facility lightly. Closures occur only when conditions create a safety concern for our customers, employees, contractors, or the general public. Public safety is, and always will be, our highest priority.

While we understand that closures can be inconvenient, these decisions are made out of necessity, not preference. We ask for the public's cooperation and respect when facility staff determine that conditions are unsafe for operations.

Abusive, confrontational, or disrespectful behavior toward staff will not be tolerated. Our employees are carrying out their responsibility to protect the safety of everyone on site.

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to reopen the facility as soon as conditions safely allow.

NOTED** WE ARE BACK OPEN

We have to close the gates temporarily due to somebody dumping mini propane tanks into the hopper.

Does any body know a place that could reuse some plant pots? We have 30-50 right now but typically take in several more during the year. I would like to avoid throwing good ones in the hopper?

♻️ Waste Wednesday Tip: Focus on #2 Plastics ♻️

Did you know that #2 plastics are some of the MOST valuable and commonly recycled materials we receive?

#2 plastics, also known as HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), are used every day in items like:

✅ Milk jugs
✅ Laundry detergent bottles
✅ Shampoo bottles
✅ Buckets & storage containers
✅ Some cleaning product containers

When these items are recycled properly, they can be turned into NEW products such as piping, recycling bins, outdoor furniture, playground equipment, and more — instead of taking up space in the hopper.

Why is recycling #2 plastics so important?

🔹 Helps reduce landfill waste
🔹 Conserves natural resources
🔹 Saves energy during manufacturing
🔹 Creates revenue that helps offset facility costs
🔹 Keeps recyclable materials out of expensive disposal streams

At Norway Paris Solid Waste, increasing recycling starts with EVERYONE making small changes at home. Before throwing an item away, take a second look for the ♻️ #2 symbol.

✔️ Empty and rinse containers
✔️ Keep items loose — no bagged recyclables
✔️ Place only accepted plastics in recycling areas

Small choices make a BIG impact. Together, we make a difference! ♻️
