Michigan Milk Producers Association

A farmer-owned cooperative servicing dairy farmers in the Great Lakes region. They met to establish a stable, reliable market and price for their milk.

MMPA was formed on May 23, 1916 when a small group of dairy farmers from the Howell area gathered at what was then the Michigan Agricultural College in East Lansing. The principles and organizational structure which these intuitive farmers established in 1916, laid the ground work for what is now an integral part of today's dairy industry.

We were proud to welcome Senator Elissa Slotkin and the International Dairy Foods Association to our Ovid facility last week!

The visit offered an inside look at the innovation driving the Great Lakes dairy industry, along with important conversations about the policies shaping dairy’s future. From the farm to the processing plant, dairy plays an important role in strengthening rural communities and providing nutritious products for consumers.

We appreciate Senator Slotkin taking the time to visit, learn more about MMPA and hear directly about the priorities of Michigan’s dairy community.

Congratulations to Bryan and Molly Benson of Benson Dairy Farm in Cadillac, Michigan, MMPA’s 2026 Outstanding Young Dairy Cooperators!

Farming on their fifth-generation dairy, Bryan and Molly milk 490 Holstein cows and operate 1,700 acres while carrying forward a family legacy that began more than 150 years ago.

Joining the Bensons in this year’s OYDC class are runner-up Brandon Gingrich of Gingrich Meadows in Leroy, Michigan, and finalist Joy Doezema of Saranac, Michigan.

Today, Michigan State University President Kevin M. Guskiewicz visited Meadowbrook Dairy, an MMPA member farm, for a conversation about the dairy industry and the longstanding partnership between MMPA and MSU.

The visit highlighted MMPA’s history with MSU, the important role research and education play in advancing dairy farms across Michigan and beyond, and the workforce needs farmers are facing as they prepare for the future.

MMPA’s history with Michigan State University goes back to the beginning with our founding in MSU’s Agriculture Hall, and for generations MSU has helped strengthen the dairy industry through research, education and outreach. In support of that legacy, MMPA is backing two important MSU dairy fundraising efforts through matching campaigns and encourages all members and employees to note their MMPA affiliation when contributing to either campaign.
