I’ll let you in on a lil secret that I’m not proud of…
I have been horrible with my boundaries!
🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
I conducted studies over the years asking leaders in hospitality, “What is one goal you have for your year?” and, “What is one skillset you hope to develop further?” About 50% said these two things:
Balance and Boundaries
I believe they are one in the same. If you can hold healthy boundaries, you are likely to feel balance in your life. Boundaries are a skill set that needs constant attention, practice, and development. They’re like a muscle you workout to build strength and endurance. It’s something I have worked on more closely in the past couple years with clients and teams, but mostly for myself. I need to exercise this muscle in order to assist recovery and healing from burnout.
The first step in making real change is awareness. When I hit burnout before I started A-Frame Hospitality, I wasn’t even aware of it and remained in survival mode. When I first became aware of it with a project at the Four Seasons, I knew I needed to develop the skill set further but didn’t know how. In my last engagement, I didn’t hold as firm boundaries as I had thought I was capable of and learned a big, hard lesson. Sometimes life throws challenges our way again until we learn the lesson we need to.
If you need support with boundaries and balance, reach out. I’m here for you! I can share what I’ve learned from studies, observations, and lived experiences.
And remember if you need to say “No” to something today, you can! No is a complete sentence as I’m always reminded of by Brené Brown. If you need to say “Yes” to something today, you also can! That Yes may be just what you need to show others what you value and are # holding your boundary around.
