For over 20 years WDS Contracting has been a leading contractor specializing in earthwork and heavy civil construction projects — including site grading, mass excavation, building pad formation, infrastructure, and land development. We take pride in delivering projects safely, efficiently, and on budget. We’re seeking an experienced Estimator / Project Manager to join our growing team. This dual role offers the opportunity to take ownership of projects from initial bid through final completion.
Job Summary:
The Estimator / Project Manager will lead estimating efforts for earthwork projects while also managing awarded projects through all phases of ex*****on in conjunction with the assistant project manager. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of cost estimation, field operations, and project controls related to excavation, grading, and mass earthmoving.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating Duties:
-Actively search out bidding opportunities
-Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for earthwork projects
-Review and interpret project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports to determine scope and potential risks.
-Prepare comprehensive bid packages with labor, material, and equipment breakdowns.
-Conduct site visits to evaluate existing conditions, soil types, access, and logistics to refine estimates.
-Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
-Identify value-engineering opportunities to optimize project costs and performance.
-Maintain up-to-date cost databases and benchmarking tools for future estimating accuracy.
Project Management Duties:
-Oversee project ex*****on from contract award through closeout, ensuring adherence to budget, schedule, and quality standards.
-Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
-Coordinate with field superintendents, foremen, and subcontractors to ensure project objectives are met.
-Track quantities, production rates, and job costs to monitor project performance.
-Lead project meetings and communicate effectively with clients, engineers, and internal stakeholders.
-Manage change orders, RFIs, and progress billings.
-Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations on all project sites.
-Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators and project staff.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum 5 + years of experience in estimating and project management within the heavy civil construction industry.
