🌱This Year's Fescue Seeding Window Is Even Shorter Than Usual
Fescue and bermuda are opposites in a lot of ways. Bermuda is a warm-season grass — it thrives in summer heat and goes dormant when it's cold. Fescue is the reverse: a cool-season grass that does its best growing in spring and fall, and struggles once temps climb into the 90s and 100s. That's why you'll often find fescue in shadier parts of a yard where bermuda has a harder time filling in.
Normally, fall gives fescue seed a solid window to germinate and establish before winter — cooling air, soil still holding some warmth from summer. But this year, with 100-degree temps sticking around later into the season than usual, that window is starting later and closing faster than it normally would. Seed too early into lingering heat and germination suffers; wait too long and seedlings won't have time to root in before cold weather hits.
