Storage Room Reset—After

There is so much more open space now! Christmas items put in one corner, keepsake boxes stacked together, lots of items pulled out for a garage sale, others thrown out as needed, shelves easy to reach, plus now empty space to stack up other seasonal tubs. Yes I do! I will take a car load of donations to a local charity for a nominal fee. One of my favorite drop off locations is TurnStyles Thrift Store in Overland Park. I love the ease of drop off so I can go when it’s convenient for me!

Do you know the best part of helping clients declutter their homes? It’s the relationships I build with them.

One of my favorite jobs was my very first non-family client. She had lived in her home for multiple decades. We spent two weeks cleaning out every room to prepare for downsizing. Yes, we got rid of a lot of things, but we reminisced. I heard stories about her loved ones, we found treasures she hadn’t seen in a while and we built a loving, trusting relationship.

Pictures of our progress—we shredded over 100 pounds of documents, threw out multiple bags of trash, collected items for a garage sale and made memories 🩵

WHAT IS DECLUTTERING?

Decluttering is the process of getting rid of clutter by donating, selling and throwing out items. We ask these questions:

Do you need it?
Do you use it?
Will you use in the next 6-12 months?
Do you love it?
Does it bring you joy?

If you answered no to those questions, then it is clutter. Excess clutter can cause anxiety, stress, avoidance of those areas in your home and less productivity.

MAJOR DECLUTTERING

We did a 2.5 hour blitz due to time constraints. We cleaned out a storage closet (most of it holiday decorations that stayed), the kitchen, and entryway.

It was difficult to get in due to boxes and clutter in the way. Four bags of trash, multiple boxes and bags of donation—we helped make the space safer and easier to find what is needed.

There is no judgement, sometimes things get out of hand and I’m here to offer a helping hand. 🩵

ORGANIZING vs DECLUTTERING

This week was more of an organizing situation. My client has recently moved and wanted help organizing his kitchen. We started with clean, empty cabinets and decided where items would be placed. There was some purging of unnecessary and unused items, but most of it stayed. We ended with two small boxes of kitchen items to be donated.

We are waiting for a shelving unit to arrive in order to finalize the kitchen. We also have more boxes to go though at a later date. 🩵
