Is Your Facility Ready to Navigate the Confusion Around Cannabis Use?

The landscape of cannabis regulations is a challenging one, with state laws clashing against federal standards.

Did you know that Washington State Residential Care Services (RCS) is reissuing its cannabis guidance for Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) after the original 2015 document reached its retention period?

The use of medical and recreational cannabis is still illegal under federal regulation. Consequently, federal funds such as Medicaid, cannot be used directly or indirectly for activities or expenses related to the use of cannabis.

As more residents access cannabis to treat symptoms of disease, understanding these conflicting laws can be confusing both for providers and for those they serve. While medical and recreational cannabis remains illegal under federal regulations, RCS has made it clear:

They won't cite facilities that ensure safe use of cannabis by residents, as long as clear policies are in place.
