"Boomers' decision to age in place, combined with pandemic-era mortgage rates that discourage selling, has created a significant bottleneck," says Aaron Buchbinder, broker associate at Compass in Boca Raton, FL.

"Many older homeowners are reluctant to give up low property taxes or sub-3% mortgage rates, so they’re staying put rather than downsizing. This limits supply for younger buyers, pushes prices even higher, and has contributed to the rising median age of first-time homebuyers."

PSA- A couple days ago, one of my clients was approached by an elderly man in a park while walking her dog. He seemed confused and asked where the McDonald’s was. She soon realized that the man had dementia and was lost. It turns out he had wandered about 3 miles from his home! Fortunately, the man was able to write down his daughter’s home address and he was reunited with his family who was frantically out looking for him. Unfortunately, this happens far too often and can end in tragedy.

As a business owner that helps many elderly clients with dementia, and as someone that has personal experience with the disease, I decided to share this incident to help raise awareness. If you ever see a senior that is alone and looks confused or lost in a public setting, just a few a minutes of your time and compassion can prevent an unfortunate outcome. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

In 2023 alone, the FBI received over 5,500 complaints involving cryptocurrency kiosks, with reported losses amounting to over $189 million. Alarmingly, more than 65% of these losses were incurred by individuals aged 60 and above. Overall, the FBI reported $5.6 billion in crypto-fraud losses in the same year.

It is nice to see bipartisan efforts come together to help our most vulnerable Nebraskans. Hopefully this is officially signed into law when it hits Gov Pillen’s desk!
