Women are among the most reliable supporters of donation crowdfunding causes — showing up for families, communities, and each other, year after year.

What if women didn't just donate — they invested?

Today is Women's Equality Day. On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment was certified. Fifty years later, on that same date, over 100,000 women marched for the unfinished parts of that fight.

I think about that unfinished part every day — I have five daughters and one grandson.

I want my daughters to grow up in a world where starting a business isn't a harder road than it needs to be simply because of their gender. And I want my grandson to grow up understanding that his sisters', his aunts', his future colleagues' ideas deserve the same capital his do — not because someone told him so, but because he watched it be true.

Here's what's still true today: women start roughly 49% of U.S. businesses, yet receive just 1–2% of venture capital and only 4.4% of conventional small-business loan dollars — despite women-founded companies generating 78¢ of revenue per dollar invested, compared to 31¢ for male-founded companies (BCG, 2018).

That gap is personal to me. It's why I co-founded Aequitas Invest (AQi), a FINRA-registered Regulation Crowdfunding platform built to give women-led businesses a regulated path to capital.

A hundred years ago, the fight was for a vote. Today, part of it is for a fair shot at funding. I want my daughters to have it. I want my grandson to help build it.

Are you working IN your business, or ON it?

If you're the one answering every email, fixing every problem, and putting out every fire — you're not running a business. You're running yourself into the ground.

Working ON your business means stepping back to build systems, set strategy, and grow the thing — not just keep it alive day to day.

Next week, block off just 2 hours to work ON your business instead of in it. See what shifts. 👇 Drop a comment with what you'll tackle on Monday.

The Future Of Venture Capital Depends On Who Controls The Capital. Female founders receive less than 2% of venture capital funding. That number gets cited constantly — but a recent Forbes article by Melissa Houston makes the case that everyone's been focused on the wrong side of the table. The real problem isn't how many women get funded. It's how few women are the ones deciding who gets funded at all.

That distinction is a big part of why Aequitas Invest exists.

Fifty years ago, a woman couldn't get a credit card without a male co-signer. Today, some women founders are adding male co-founders who know nothing about their businesses — just to get a meeting with venture capitalists.

That second fact is very disappointing and shines a light on an inequity and an investment opportunity. Molly Huyck, founder and CEO of Aequitas Invest (AQi), a crowdfunding platform built by women, for women founders, is seizing this opportunity. "Despite the times, and despite how progressive things have improved," she told me, "we still have a long, long road ahead."

There's a number that should stop every investor in their tracks: $2.1 trillion.

That's how much the McKinsey Global Institute estimates the U.S. economy could gain by closing the gender gap in economic participation — driven by higher workforce participation, more full-time roles, and greater representation for women in higher-productivity sectors. In McKinsey's most optimistic scenario, full parity pushes that number as high as $4.3 trillion.

🏞️ A Quick Note from Amie

Over the past two weeks, I've had the incredible opportunity to unplug, recharge, and spend quality time with my family exploring one of America's greatest treasures—Yosemite National Park.

As entrepreneurs and leaders, we're often focused on the next meeting, the next deadline, and the next milestone. But this trip was a reminder that stepping away isn't a luxury—it's an investment. Time in nature, meaningful conversations, and making memories with the people you love has a way of bringing clarity and fresh perspective.

I'm grateful for the amazing AQi team who kept things moving while I was away, and I'm excited to return with renewed energy, new ideas, and an even greater passion for helping entrepreneurs access capital and build the businesses they dream about.

I'll be back in the office Monday, July 20, and I can't wait to reconnect with our founders, investors, and partners.

See you soon!
