🌸 The name Aya carries deep and powerful meaning across cultures and languages, which makes it perfect for my doula practice. Here are a few roots of the word:
• Hebrew: Aya means “to fly swiftly” or “bird” — symbolizing freedom, spirit, and transcendence.
• Japanese: Aya can mean “color” or “design/pattern,” reflecting beauty, uniqueness, and creation.
• Arabic: Aya (آية) means “a sign” or “a miracle,” often used in the Qur’an to mean a verse or a divine sign from God.
• West African (Akan, Ghana): Aya is the name of the fern symbol in Adinkra (African visual symbols). It represents endurance, resourcefulness, and resilience, because the fern grows in difficult places and still thrives.

✨ So, Aya can be understood as: a sign of wonder, resilience, and sacred beauty — which ties beautifully into the journey of birth, healing, and transformation.
