The Mouse House Flip: Part 2 😳
A year and a half ago, I got a call from the hospital.
My stepmother had been brought in because she was too weak to care for herself.
They told me she had no electricity…
and had been eating out of the trash.
They also told me the house was infested with mice.
We left the next day and drove 6 hours to get her.
When we walked in, the smell and the condition of the home made us sick to our stomachs.
We told her she couldn’t take anything with her…
but she insisted on bringing a small cooler bag with leftover food.
Looking back, I think she was just scared she wouldn’t have anything to eat.
We got her into a safe place, and eventually into assisted living.
But the damage from how she had been living didn’t just go away.
This house… and this story… is a lot bigger than a renovation.
