Who was Valentine? 🤔
Not the greeting card company. Not Cupid’s assistant. A Roman priest who changed history.
The Year: 270 AD
Emperor Claudius II banned marriage for soldiers. Better fighters if they’re single, he thought.
Valentine disagreed. He performed secret wedding ceremonies anyway.
The Cost: His Life
Discovered and imprisoned, Valentine was executed on February 14th. Legend says he wrote the jailer’s daughter a letter before his death, signing it “From your Valentine”—the first valentine ever written.
The Question:
Was this real? Embellished? A mix of multiple stories? Historians still debate it.
The Truth:
Whether fact or legend, someone stood up for love when it cost everything. 1,756 years later, we still remember his name.
Sometimes the boldest acts of leadership happen in the shadows.
Happy Valentine’s Day. ❤️
